USF To Host Seton Hall In First Round Of The BIG EAST Championship

TAMPA, Fla. (October 22, 2006) – The University of South Florida men’s soccer team (8-5-4, 4-3-4 BIG EAST) will host the Seton Hall Pirates (9-7-1, 7-4-0 BIG EAST) in a first-round match of the 2006 BIG EAST Championship on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at the USF Soccer Stadium. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

USF finished the 2006 regular season as the No. 4 seed in the Red Division in this year’s tournament, while Seton Hall wrapped up the No. 5 seed in the Blue Division.  

This will be the first meeting between the two teams this season and mark just the second time the two squads have met. USF won last year’s contest, defeating Seton Hall 3-2 (OT) in Tampa.

The winner of this first-round matchup will travel to Morgantown, W.Va., to face the top seed in the Blue Division, West Virginia.  

The first two rounds of the BIG EAST Championship will be played on campus sites. The semifinals and finals will be held a Yurcak Stadium on the campus of Rutgers University (Piscataway, N.J.)

I say that we need to at least make the Big East championship game to help give USF an at large bid for the NCAAs. Anything less than that will make this season a failure for the SoccerBulls.
