USF Softball Fall Practice Underway; Ready To Build On Highly-Successful 2006 Campaign

TAMPA, Fla. (Oct. 5, 2006) – After advancing to the NCAA Super Regional in 2006, the University of South Florida softball team is preparing to build and better its performance from last year as fall practice got underway on Oct. 2.  

“It’s always exciting to start a new venture with a new group of people and work towards the same type of goals,” coach Ken Eriksen said. “Any time you can get back on the field with the quality student-athletes we can recruit here at USF makes it even that much more worthwhile.”

The Bulls hit the field Monday through Friday from 2:15-5:15 p.m. at the USF Softball Field. All practices during the fall season, which lasts until Nov. 4, are open to the public.

USF will be using this time to get back into top shape and get into rhythm for the 2007 season, which features another tough schedule that will prepare the team for postseason play. The Bulls will host seven tournaments before BIG EAST play gets underway.  

With the loss of six seniors – four of which were starters – Eriksen will be using this time to see who will fill the voids left by the winningest senior class in USF history and the only class to ever advance to four-straight NCAA tournaments.  

“We utilize the four to five weeks in the fall to get comfortable – number one – with the system we’ve implementer here and also to find out who’s going to win starting positions and fill out the roster. It’s going to be a tough task this fall because we have a lot of talent out here.”

Regular season action for the Bulls starts on Feb. 9-11 when the team hosts the Best Western Tournament. USF will open up the season facing Western Kentucky on Feb. 9 at 3 p.m. and will play Arkansas at 5:30 p.m.
