RU fan here.  There is talk on our board that we could be ranked with a win over Howard this weekend and losses by a couple of teams.

I didn't see it as a big deal because if we go down there and beat you guys we will be ranked.  If we go down there and lay an egg we won't be ranked.  So what's the big deal about being ranked for 1 more week (or only 1 week).   Also thought maybe you guys would be more fired up for a Friday night game against a ranked team.  I would prefer to be right at 26 for the game with you guys.

Hopefully we are both 4-0 going into next weeks game.

I doubt a win over Howard will get RU into the top 25, but there is a ton of hype around RU's program this year. I would like to see Rut ranked coming into our house, we kinda thrive on knocking off ranked teams at home.

I believe a win over Howard for Rutgers would help the team only slightly because a win is a win, but you would have to have a few of the teams ahead of you fall out to move up.

Unfortunately, RU needs a little luck to make it happen...

Let's look at this 'objectively'

#20 Boston College @ NC State

#20 Arizona St @ #22 Cal            One of these two teams will drop

#22 California vs #20 ASU

#23 Nebraska vs Troy

#24 Penn State @ #1 Ohio State... so they will drop.

#25 Boise State vs Hawaii

Alabama @ Arkansas

Miami (IDLE)

Rutgers vs Howard

UCLA @ Washington

Michigan State vs #12 Notre Dame

Rutgers could only crack the Top 25 if more than 2 teams drop out.  Penn State and ASU/Cal will probably drop.  If MSU beats ND, then it could be a problem.  Not sure if any of the rest will drop - could be that Rutgers is the first team "Also Getting Votes" after this week.

Of course it also means that no unranked team can beat a ranked team, because they might move up as well.

Reporters usually move teams up their ballot as long as they win.

Oh, I know a win over howard won't help us at all.  More that attrition of other teams losing may move us up by default.  Would be nice for the conference but I hope it doesn't happen this week!

How are we against ranked teams at home?

I know there is that loss to TCU a few years back, and WV last year,

BUT, we have the wins against Bowling Green and Louisville.

Not really counting AA teams.

Wasn't Miami ranked last year when we played them?
