Charlotte bowl might move closer to New Year

Pending approval from the NCAA and ESPN, next season's Continental Tire Bowl will be played Dec. 30 at Bank of America Stadium, according to Ken Haines, CEO of Charlotte-based Raycom Sports.

The bowl game, which matches teams from the ACC and Big East, will be televised on ESPN or ESPN2.

The bowl, which is marketed by Raycom, has been a success in its first two seasons, with Virginia winning both games.

The Cavaliers beat West Virginia in 2002 in front of a sold-out crowd and Pittsburgh last season in front of 51,236.

Can't wait to see USF there.  It's just an hour away from me.
