are close to making a deal that sends Navy to play an ACC school.  The deal is that Navy must have a winning record and bowl officials would vote either the third place Big East team or Navy to play the ACC opponent.  This could hurt the Bulls as Navy would bring alot more fans to the Charlotte area.

I'm not doubting but I'm FUMING over the travesty that is BE bowl setups...this is our 3rd biggest bowl and this will really hurt us. We gave up a lot of rights to the Gator Bowl and now the MCC Bowl, which shouldn't happen to a BCS conference.

Navy has a contract with the Poinsettia Bowl for 2008, 2009, or 2010.

And the Poinsettia Bowl wants the Midshipmen every 3-5 years:

The Midshipmen on Monday accepted an invitation to play in the inaugural Poinsettia Bowl on Dec. 22 at Qualcomm Stadium. Navy will most likely play Colorado State, although the Mountain West Conference won't announce its bowl lineup until Tuesday or Wednesday.

"To get off to a good start in this inaugural bowl game we needed a marquee at-large team to play the Mountain West Conference, and what better matchup than to have the Naval Academy come to a Navy community such as San Diego?" said Bruce Binkowski, the bowl's executive director. "It can't get any better than this."

Binkowski said the Poinsettia Bowl wants to get Navy into a rotation of playing in the game every three to five years, with final details to be worked out.

Navy hopes to sell 20,000 tickets, and bowl officials hope to attract a total of 40,000 fans.

Not sure that that Navy could bring 20,000 fans to Charlotte - considering San Diego is a BIG BIG Navy town.

this is obsurd, why does navy get to take the place of a big east team and not that of a acc team?  we are a bcs conference and shouldn't be pushed around like this.  i think its time to stampede the MCC Bowl, anybody got e-mails?

i guess you could say it just puts a greater emphasis on getting to the BCS game...other wise we get treated like crap considering we are in a BCS conf

Because they hope to get teams from the area like nc st & nc who sell the tix....BE does not bring a big crowd like the local teams.

it's not that big a deal since USF will be going to the BCS every year. ;-)

Besides, the ACC has Virginia, Virginia Tech, UNC, NC State, Duke (yeah right), Clemson, Georgia Tech & Wake Forest that are all closer, geographically, than the closest Big East team.  Hard to argue that teams from Virginia, North Carolina, or South Carolina deserve a lower priority than teams from New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.

USF's problem will be the fact that we don't travel well... yet.

There are Navy fans everywhere....many Navy people in DC, MD, and VA none of which is that far from Charlotte.

Navy would bring more fans than USF did.
