USF’s Casey Hudspeth Earns CollegeBasballInsider.com’s Regional Player of the Week Honor

TAMPA, Fla. (February 17, 2006) – University of South Florida right-handed pitcher Casey Hudspeth has been named CollegeBaseballInsider.com’s Northeast Regional Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 12 as announced by the media outlet.

In his 2006 debut, Hudspeth struck out 10 batters while walking none in five innings of action to earn his first victory of the season. The 10 strikeouts were just one shy of his career high (11, vs. Eastern Michigan, 2/18/05).  The Sarasota, Fla., native allowed just four hits over the five innings of action, holding Northwestern to a .182 batting average on the night.  Sixty-seven of Hudspeth’s 102 total pitches on the night resulted in strikes.  The performance helped guide USF to it’s fourth-straight season-opening victory.

As a new member of the BIG EAST Conference, USF falls into the Northeast Region as covered by CollegeBaseballIsider.com.

USF will travel to Jacksonville to face the Dolphins in a two-game series at Alexander Brest Field Feb. 18-19. Game one will take place on Saturday, Feb. 18. Game time is 1 p.m.
