Tampa, Fla. Nov. 29, 2023  The University of South Florida women’s basketball (5-3) welcomes Charleston Southern (1-5) for Education Day on Thursday, Nov. 30. Tipoff is slated for 11:00 a.m. and the game will stream live on ESPN+.

 

SETTING THE STAGE

The Bulls have won two of their last four and are looking for their fifth consecutive home victory to close out November.

 

The Buccaneers enter the contest with a single triumph so far this season. Charleston Southern’s overall record sits at 1-5.

 

THE SOUTH FLORIDA-CHARLESTON SOUTHERN SERIES

Thursday marks the second-ever meeting between South Florida and Charleston Southern, the first in over 30 years, and the first in Tampa Bay. The first meeting was a 103-49 USF win on Feb. 22, 1991, in North Charleston, S.C.

 

LAST TIME OUT

South Florida Fell to No. 12/12 Texas, 76-44, on Saturday night in the Paradise Jam Finale. Freshman guard Vittoria Blasigh (10-points) and redshirt junior forward Romi Levy (10-points) combined for a total of 20 points on the night, while sophomore wing Carla Brito added nine points in the defeat.

 

BULL LEADERS

USF has two players averaging double-digit points, led by Blasigh (14.3 ppg.) and Brito (10.7 ppg.) leads on the glass with 7.5 boards per contest. Redshirt senior guard Aerial Wilson (3.9 apg.) is the team’s leading assister and leads the American with 31 total assists. Blasigh (26 3PTM) is ranked T3th nationally and first in the American in total 3-pointers made.

 

EDUCATION DAY

Thursday is the program’s annual Education Day, and 85 local schools will be in attendance. Each youngling will receive an activity book, crayons, and a pom-pom to cheer on the Bulls.

 

RECORD BREAKING DAY

Thursday is set to be a record-breaking sold-out crowd at Education Day. With over 8,500 students from local schools in attendance, the program will set a new all-time program attendance record.

BULLS FANS CAN VOTE FOR PUISIS

Senior guard Sammie Puisis is one of 20 players named to the 2024 Ann Meyers-Drysdale Award watch list, which is annually presented to the top shooting guard in Division I women’s college basketball. Bulls fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting for each of the three rounds. The list will be narrowed to 10, and then in late February to just five. In March, the five finalists will be presented to Myers-Drysdale and the Hall of Fame’s selection committee, where a winner will be selected. Fans can vote for Puisis at hoophallawards.com.
