I think this is the 5th time we have been eligible... but only the 2nd where we have a legit shot.. If we can split next 2 I think we go.. if we lose both its a crap shoot.

5 times bowl eligible?? C'mon, gkf, what are you smoking? Remember 1-AA wins can only be counted once every so many years .....

1998 - 9-2 as an independent.  Bowl Eligible.

2000 - 7-4, again indy, with a win over Alabama.  Micron PC bowl officials were there to hand us a bid if we beat VT in our last home game.   We didn't.  Eligible but not bowl.

2001 - 6-5, indy, nothing to write home about but bowl eligible.  Having never been to a bowl, I would suspect that our DIAA win that year would count this year.

2002 - 7-4, 6-2 in the MAC.  Only 2 losses were to the division winners Marshall and Toledo and by less than 7 pts in each.  If it had been just about any other conference...or heck the MAC last season when everyone went bowling...we would have been the 3rd team to go bowling.

This is our 5th eligible season.

Non eligible seasons: 1996 (5-6), 1997 (5-6), 1999 (4-7), 2003 (3-9), 2004 (0-11).

My bad on one thing. I thought he meant already 5 times eligible ....

In 2000, it looks like you had to beat VT to become bowl eligible. You had 3 wins against 1-AA teams ....

So this is your fourth year eligible. Still, more than I had realized ....

and the DIAA win only counts one of every 2 years, so one of those two wouldn't have counted anyway, right (had you actually gotten to a bowl in 2000, then in 2001 you would not have beein eligible, as you would have had 5 div 1A wins and one non-counting IAA win)?

Good call Triple...had to look it up for myself.  EKU, William & Mary and Northwestern State - OUCH.

With Bama, VT and GT on the schedule..were we trying not to go to a bowl game???

Glad those days are over...we unfortunately are playing DIAA Villanova next season...I guess those MAC teams don't like us much.  Playing a team like Buffalo would have at least been "IA" in case we need the 6th win or 7th win (12 game season, not sure what is considered a winning season) and even Buffalo would at least carry name recognition with a few of our fans.

Hopefully people equate Nova with their other athletic programs...maybe we can even trick people into thinking they are in the Big East for football.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
