USF: QBs abound

TAMPA - USF opened individual drills in its first preseason practice with an unusual sight: six quarterbacks lined up next to each other, each taking snaps under a center. Returning starter Pat Julmiste , sophomore Courtney Denson and freshman Carlton Hill saw most of the snaps, and freshman Matt Grothe saw his first action. The Bulls have so many passers that two - Indiana transfer Grant Gregory , who will sit out this season, and walk-on Anthony Severino - are wearing the same No.12 yellow jerseys.

NOT THERE YET: Three members of the recruiting class were not at practice and three others watched in street clothes, still waiting for official acceptance into USF.

Receiver Ishmeal Grant remained in Blountstown but said he expects to hear from the NCAA clearinghouse this week and is confident he'll be on campus soon. Linebacker Gene Coleman must wait until grades from his summer junior college classes are released today. And Gibbs defensive tackle Paul Uhatafe was added to the roster but also is awaiting clearinghouse approval.

Defensive back Antonio Cox , linebacker Chris Robinson and offensive lineman Chris DeArmas did not participate but are expected to join shortly.

NEW ADDITION: Fullback Dan Puckett , who graduated from Dixie Hollins in the spring, is a new walk-on. Puckett, wearing No.43, continues a pipeline from Dixie to USF that includes coach Jim Leavitt and defensive coordinator Rick Kravitz , as well as running back Andre Hall and former Bulls stars Marquel Blackwell , DeAndrew Rubin and Tchecoy Blount .

So many QBs and WRs that Pat Carter couldn't cut it at USF and had to go to Gainesville...

Here's hoping Grant does hear something this week.

Wow that is great news about Coleman, this has to be the best recruiting class as far as everyone qualifying.

So far only LB Donte Spires didn't qualify. He's going to Junior College and hopes to return to USF after graduating.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

Last I checked the scoreboard doesn't have a spot for current bank balance on it.
