UF's Ingram Will Stick To Just Playing Football

Published: Jul 21, 2005

GAINESVILLE - Cornelius Ingram will concentrate only on playing quarterback at the University of Florida - at least for the near future.

Ingram, a prep football and basketball star from Hawthorne who also considered the University of South Florida, was listed among the players ``lost'' from last season on the 2005-06 Florida men's basketball roster released Wednesday. The 6-foot-5 guard averaged 1.4 points and 0.5 rebounds last season.

An athletic department spokesman said Ingram is at school on a football scholarship and that the redshirt freshman's focus would be on the gridiron.

CI has a lot of pure talent and if he can get in football shape by the fall, he'll help tremendously at QB depth.

This would allow Dickey to play at other positions, and would allow Portis to redshirt.

Do you really think CI will get to play at UF?  I really doubt it.  (other than the last 3 minutes of a game against FAMU?)

Depends. There's a distinct possibility that he'll be on the field at a different position.

For right now, I'd say that a lot depends on how well fall practice goes.

With Dickey and Ingram involved in baseball and hoops, Portis took a huge step forward in the spring.

Meyer has said that he wants Dickey on the field... so he'll probably be a WR/QB. I could see Ingram helping at TE if he doesn't just add to QB depth.

I agree he might have a chance to play if it isn't at the QB position.  With all the talent that UF gets year after year at QB... i just think CI will not make it at that position.  But 6'4, fast, and strong, could do fine as a receiver/TE.

Yep.

And we need more receivers. Meyer likes to have 5 receivers on the field for most every play.

We also have no depth at TE. Our backup TE transferred away... he was more of a blocking TE and didn't fit into Meyer's system. Ingram would work well there.
