Three USF Golfers Named to National All-Scholar Team

(July 20, 2005) TAMPA, FLA. -- Daniella Ronderos, Fernanda Rivera and Christina Jones have each been named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-Scholar Team. The prestigious honor is presented to intercollegiate golfers who maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 and compete in a minimum of two-thirds of the team’s tournaments.

Ronderos, a sophomore from Bogotá, Colombia had six top 10 finishes in her 10 tournaments this season and led the team with a 75.6 stroke average. Ronderos, who earned first team all-conference honors, is an international business major.

Rivera, a junior from Puebla, Mexico, played in eight tournaments and finished the season with a 78.3 stroke average. Her best finish was fourth place in the Beacon Woods Invitational. Rivera is majoring in business.

Jones, a freshman from Jensen Beach, Fla., finished third in the Conference USA Championship and was named the C-USA Freshman of the Year. She had four top 10 finishes in her 10 tournaments and averaged 77.5 strokes. Jones is a business major.

In addition to excelling in the classroom, the three golfers helped USF earn a berth in the 2005 NCAA Central Regional.

Congrats to all the girls and especially to Jones who made the cut last week (T-31) in the 2005 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship.
