Switzerland's George Bastl and Israel's Noam Okun advance to the main draw after their respective opponents, Justin Gimelstob the No. 3 seed and Jan-Michael Gambill the No. 13 seed, were forced to retire.

I still remember when I was there to cheer him on as he practiced right before he had to play Sampras a few years back: "You can take him!" I said.

Sure enough, he beat Sampras.... I still have the bandana that he signed. It was cool to have watched him out at the USF tennis courts and then to see him at Wimbledon.
