Penn State Expels Ed Johnson From School

Penn State has expelled defensive tackle Ed Johnson for the summer and fall semesters, saying Friday that he violated a university regulation about sexual misconduct.

The school also said Johnson violated the university's Code of Conduct about "confining another student against their will."

No charges have been filed, according to campus and State College police.

Penn State spokesman Jeff Nelson said he could not release additional information about the incident, which occurred in on-campus housing during the spring semester, because of federal privacy guidelines.

Johnson would be eligible to return next spring if he meets school and team conditions, Nelson said. He had already been suspended since March and missed spring practice while awaiting the ruling.

Reached by phone at Johnson's home in Detroit, a woman who said she was his grandmother said the 21-year-old senior was not available. An e-mail message sent to Johnson seeking comment was not immediately returned.

"We regret that any of our players would put themselves in a situation that might endanger others," coach Joe Paterno said in a statement. "Our players understand that they face team consequences beyond university sanctions and like all students must realize how at risk they are with inappropriate actions."

Johnson started three games last year and had been counted on to be a key contributor on the defensive line this fall.

Sounds like Penn St isn't the only one with the problem.

The word on the Miami board is that FSU player A.J. Nichleson was arrested.  No word on why, but apparently he "resisted arrest then got zapped with the tazor crew."  This is in addition to a previous DUI arrest that is still pending.
