THE TOP NEWS STORIES OF 2004-2005

...

Oct. 30, 2004 -- For the first time since 1997, the Georgia football team defeats Florida in Jacksonville at "The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party."

In the Bulldogs' 31-24 win over the rival Gators, sophomore tight end Leonard Pope caught David Greene touchdown passes of 27 and 35 yards. Greene had another TD in the game -- a 15-yard pass to senior receiver Fred Gibson late in the fourth quarter.

Georgia finished the season 10-2, with wins over LSU, Florida and Georgia Tech as well as a down-to-the-wire victory over Purdue in the Outback Bowl. The Bulldogs, though, suffered a disappointing loss at home against Tennessee and a 24-6 crushing in Auburn.

It was the third consecutive season the Bulldogs garnered at least 10 wins. After beating Kentucky, Greene became the winningest quarterback in NCAA Div. I-A history and ended the season with 42 career wins.

In April, six Bulldogs were selected in the NFL Draft.
