  1. Whatever we do, we better not sign anything more than 3 years, with NO EXTENSION unless we see signs of improvement with the program (particularly record, both overall and in-conference). if DW extends someone after a 1-win in conference record season, expect the brown bags to come out again
  2. You dont really HAVE to have the talent.. by that I mean you don't have to have the blue chippers. Grothe and selvie were not blue chippers. But they were identified and groomed well. I'm more worried about player development than recruiting. I'd rather have a Brian Kelly than a Ron Zook.
  3. That is my only fear with Davis... he has no real ties to USF or Tampa and can move on at any time. I think he can assemble a better staff than Willie T with possibly bringing in randy Shannon as DC and Mario Cristobal as OC. That being said, given his age and that he has already 3 HC gigs, I don't think he would want to move around anymore so maybe we should consider him
  4. I was listening to Ron and Ian and Ian talks of Chris Forrester of the Bucs as OC during the Dungy era being an idiot like that. It is crazy how far people like that can make it simply due to connections and not ability or knowledge. Oh the politics of the workplace....
  5. That was my first thought too. Like if USF hired East Carolina's current coach to replace Holtz, or hired some other mid-level coach who is the son of a legend ... like Dooley. Lol or if we were to hire a coach from ECU that won 2 CUSA titles.. oops
  6. It wont mean anything unless Taggart can develop the talent. Look at Randy Shannon-- was supposed to be an amazing recruit down in Miami, local guy, grew up in the same neighborhoods the kids did, homegrown, etc, all the high school coaches down there knew him. Didn't do jack at the U. Just tryin to play devil's advocate, but Taggart hasnt really proven he is a good developer of talent and/or gameday coach
  7. I think the public announcement of Houston Nutt interviewing is just a smokescreen. he doesnt seem like a logistic fit here, whether it be as a FB coach or just from a community/school representative standpoint
  8. I think it is purely NETWORKING, like any other business. Willie T already has an established relationship with football coaches around here. They know who he is, he knows who they are. Bringing him in is like promoting a local branch manager to regional manager.. VS hiring an outside manager from outside of the company to be your regional manager [the best analogy i can think of]. Im sure skip knew SOME contacts down here before he got hired, but not to the extent that Willie does. That being said, i think people overblow recruiting a little too much, and undervalue player development. There have been many great recruiters (i.e. ron zook) who couldn't develop talent, some who could develop talent but couldnt put together an overall team that could reach full potential (i.e. leavitt), and some people who aren't that great of recruiters but could develop the hell out of their talent (i.e. brian kelly). my biggest fear is Willie T being a great recruiter, but not so great gameday coach. i know winning at WKU is hard to do, but we still dont know how good (or bad) he is as a gameday coach.
  9. Ok Taggert as HC, Mario as OC, randy Shannon as DC...
  10. This could be a blessing in disguise.. since he was FIRED and didn't resign from a sun belt program, you know he won't have enough clout to land a HC position. Hire Willie as HC, Cristobal as D-- talk about being a 2-headed recruiting monster
  11. If we get Taggert, he has the potential to put a recruiting fence around the bay area
  12. No offense taken but I didn't like getting blown out by Rutgers and 49-0. Even skip Holtz did a better job in that department. We plateau with 4-3 records jn the big east under him. That was the real reason Jim got axed. Miller was the excuse DW was looking for
  13. I prefer pro style but only because we haven't had it done here.. uConn and Rutgers run pro style and you can't tell me they have rosters full of Midwestern linemen. Same with Syracuse. That being said, our strength is speed and if we go option, we need to go all in Oregon style. I believe the demise of BJ Daniels was Holtz trying to make him a pocket passer. Remember he won at FSU under leavitts spread system, as did grothe vs auburn... that was the last time we had a decent offense
  14. My only concern is that I think DW was going after the anti Leavitt and got Holtz, who does everything from Sunday to Friday well (good graduation rates, good community involvement, great with alumni PR, etc). He put less emphasis on wins and losses and got a PR man. This is a results based business, hope he learned his lesson and will go out and get someone who wins above all else
  15. The problem is that college baseball doesn't get as much attention as football, hence the lukewarm vs hot seat
  16. We aren't a high profile BCS program, why are you acting surprised?
  17. no.. and if we did, i would be pissed. how quickly do we remember how he plateaued and would choke against Big East competition
  18. How about a good game day coach? Win games and recruiting becomes easier. Brian Kelly admits he is not a great recruiter but he has won at Cincy and Central Mich (notre dame recruits itself). Win and the recruits come, not the other way around
  19. That is the biggest misnomer of Bisaccia. He actually does. Look at his resume, he has coached in all 3 phases of football: offense, defense, special teams. He would be a great HC, and he was a known asset for the Bucs.
  20. You are obviously not a Buccaneers fan. He was a special teams coach for the bucs during their super bowl run as well as Assistant Head Coach of the team. Currently Special Teams coach & Assist. HC of the SD Chargers. Most Bucs fans know who he is and know that he was more than just a special teams coach, he knew about every aspect of the game and all departments. Special Teams coaches have a negative stigma for not having potential to be a HC, which is completely crap. he has experience at every position of the game: http://www.chargers.com/team/coaches/rich-bisaccia/b12b49b5-7424-44f2-a4e6-8a3fbeafd4d3
  21. Image him going into a recruit's living room in the state of Florida, flashing that Super Bowl XXXVII ring
