  1. I missed this game b/c of last minute shenanigans but am excited about the win and crowd. Is it too much to hold out hope and think this year's BE schedule could be a slow starter like last year and we figure it out with some coaching adjustments (Hawkins starting?) and team play and finish strong? After watching Cuse and Louisville yesterday we should not feel bad at all about those two losses. That was an awesome game to watch. The Nova loss however could hurt us.
  2. I live near USF, come by and get them $10 for the pair. Call 985-0231 if interested

  4. Ugh, thanks a lot, Id rather not know. Just got done watching Forks over Knifes too, Im fasting for a week.
  5. This is the kind of kid we need to get. This is where Coach Taggart will hopefully close a deal bringing a kid who has an offer from half the SEC to USF.
  6. Sounds like Kevin Smith from UCF a several years back. A ton of yards on a ton of carries. If he's up for it, why not? Checked his stats, he only had one workhorse year so he shouldnt be on dead legs. Perfect opportunity for him to demonstrate he wasnt a one year wonder and he could help himself significantly in the draft with another outstanding college season.
  7. I think we can all breathe a sigh of relief now ... cosign oh the lulz...
  8. And SH was hired based on his accomplishments elsewhere. Check 2011 & 2012 to see how that worked out. Im with Ghost here
  9. Just hop into the way back machine. Study the diaries of Willie Williams, and yee shall succeed: The Ballad Of Willie Williams This story takes us way back to the year 2004 B.D. (Before Deadspin), and yes, sports existed even then. Back when a 19-year-old kid from Miami named Willie Williams was the most sought after football recruit in Florida and the Miami Herald figured, "Why not ask him to keep a diary of his on campus recruiting trips to let people see the experience from the inside." Why not, indeed? Maybe because the inside was the last place the universities ever wanted the press or public to look.Everyone already knew that highly-prized recruits were lavished with praise and attention, but no one quite understood the lengths (and dollars) that big time programs would go to, to land a blue-chipper like Williams. Private jets, steak and lobster dinners, personalized jerseys, nights on the town, cookies baked by the coach's wife—none of those things are allowed anymore ... thanks to the diaries that became an internet sensation. But they also brought unwanted attention to Williams. Days after he finally committed to Miami, it was revealed that he was was arrested 11 times as a juvenile and was still on probation when he enrolled for school. His life since then has seen five colleges in three different divisions, morearrests, and the birth of a daughter, now three. After struggling at Miami for two years, and getting kicked off the team at Louisville, he's now starting for Union College (Kentucky) of the NAIA and plans to graduate next year. He still has hopes of a shot at the NFL, which he may get. It's not his fault college coaches spent on more on gifts for him than they probably did on their own children, but his story is still a fascinating one. For example: how can one man eat all that lobster? The original diaries are archived behind a paywall, but are helpfully preserved by a Florida Marlins message board. (Of course.) Some of the highlights from his trips: Florida State: I ordered a steak and a lobster tail. The lobster tail was like $49.99. I couldn't believe something so little could cost so much. The steak didn't even have a price. The menu said something about market value. I was kind of embarrassed so I didn't order a lot. 'But then I saw what the other guys were ordering, I was like, `Forget this.' I called the waiter back and told him to bring me four lobster tails, two steaks and a Shrimp Scampi. It was good. I took two boxes back with me to the hotel.'' They had jerseys with our names on it. They even had my No. 17. I told them `Isn't that number retired for [Heisman winner] Charlie Ward? Coach [bobby] Bowden was like, `For you Willie, we'll bring it back.'' Miami: Coach Larry Coker picked him up at his Carol City home in a white Cadillac Escalade, then put Williams up at the Mayfair House Hotel in Coconut Grove. Williams' room featured a jacuzzi on his balcony. Following the campus visit, the recruits boarded a bus with the coaching staff and headed for the Orange Bowl ... ''We'd get to a red light and I would hold on because the bus driver would just take it,'' he said. 'I was thinking the bus driver was crazy. Coach Coker was like, `Willie, we've got police escorts.'" Auburn: ''The girls at the party were much better than the farmer girls we'd see all day around campus,'' Williams said. ``I was kind of worried all Auburn had to offer was those farmer girls that talked funny. But the girls at the party weren't farmer girls at all. I thought they must have bused them in from Miami.'' Florida: ''I ate so many meatballs, the people there started looking like meatballs ... 'The first night I was OK with eating at the stadium. But when they told me we're going to eat there again, I was a little disappointed. I was like, `Take us to Red Lobster or something.' That's when I pretty much made up my mind. I can't live in a place that don't have any restaurants. What am I going to do — fly home to eat shrimp?''
  10. Read his bio, he's from Springfield so I'm pulling a bit extra for him. He's been around and seen a lot. He has spent time in college and should full well know what he's getting himself into. My concern doesnt address him specifically but it starts with the quote from earlier: "Our motto is to be physical, relentless and intelligent", Chuck Bresnahan I agree with his motto 100%. But going from coaching NFL to college players wont be an easy task from the gate. Coaches have systems that they use that require certain skill sets, including mental acuity. Thats what his motto there suggests. How will he transition back to college after dealing with seasoned players, even if from some of the worst run NFL organizations. As an example- Iam a huge Bill Belichick fan and believe he would absolutely flop as a college coach. His system depends less on athletes which some college players will never become more than, and more on players learning roles and sticking to them. Will we recruit the type of defensive players this guy needs? What sort of player will that be, as we've seen rating stars dont always equate to success. Im completely behind the hire, even if it seems a bit risky.
  11. Sometimes this board resembles a green tinted version of Reddit. NO PUN HERE MOVE ALONG
  12. About the crowd- The average age of Cuse fans had to be 50+ and they were verrry quiet for the first 15min of gametime. A lot of Orange in the second and third levels? Sure. But when the Bulls gave their crowd something to cheer about, that place was electric. Complete bananas for the three pointers, alley oops, and other dunks that started that game. Cuse fans had a shocked look were reduced to a peep, I know this as I sat with many of them right behind me. I thought on the whole they were respectful even if foolish for trying to cut the court.
  13. Annnd one more Big East prediction (as of Jan 3) 9. South Florida (8-3): The Bulls, who reached the second round of the NCAA tournament a year ago, return the frontcourt tandem of Victor Rudd and Toarlyn Fitzpatrick. It's been a rocky start for USF, but there's a chance it surprises and punches a ticket to the Big Dance again. 14. Leave it NBC sports and CBT to recognize something is going on here: Who else is on upset alert? Sat. 2:00 p.m.: No. 15 Georgetown at Marquette (ESPN3): I almost hesitated leaving this game off of the upset alert list despite the fact that it is another example of a ranked team playing an unranked league opponent on the road because I don’t think that the Golden Eagles matchup that well with the Hoyas. Georgetown has a ridiculous amount of length and athleticism on their perimeter, and when they sit back in their 2-3 zone, they can be a nightmare to try and score on. Marquette has some perimeter playmakers, but they shoot just 30.2% from beyond the arc. Will there be enough space for them to score in the lane? Sat. 4:00 p.m.: Bucknell at No. 12 Missouri (ESPN3): Don’t laugh. Bucknell is the real deal. If you haven’t seen their center Mike Muscala play, he’s the real deal. I’d expect a very high number of NBA scouts to be in attendance in this one, as he’ll be going up against a guy with NBA size and strength in Alex Oriakhi. Bucknell’s key to pulling this upset, however, will be finding a way to keep Phil Pressey out of the paint. I’m not sure they will be able to. Sat. 4:00 p.m.: No. 23 NC State at Boston College (ESPN2): I like this matchup for Boston College. For starters, they are a lot better than anyone thought they would be this season, and while they still aren’t exactly going to compete for the ACC title — they have lost to Charleston and Bryant — this is a team that can make some noise and pull some upsets. Power forward Ryan Anderson is the real deal, and he has support with Joe Rahon and Olivier Hanlon. The Wolfpack have the talent to be a Final Four team, but they have issues putting together a quality game on both ends of the floor for 40 minutes. That makes them susceptible to the upset. Sun. 12:00 p.m.: No. 7 Syracuse at South Florida (ESPN3): Remember what I was saying about ranked teams on the road? We’ve learned it so many times the hard way. The Orange better be ready to play, especially considering that both Anthony Collins and Victor Rudd are back are being injured last weekend.
  15. First goal should be to hold serve at home. That would rack up 9 wins including Louisville, Syracuse, Georgetown, UConn and Notre Dame. Will it be enough to get 18 wins? Who knows. But .500 in the Big East will certainly get our name into the discussion. True. But by that same logic, isn't it too early to call it a bad loss? WMU has a huge boost to their RPI because of us as well as playing Michigan and NC State. We'll see if they are a bad or good team in a month. But for our sake, lets hope they run the table and win the MAC. She's entitled to her opinion. Just like we're entitled to point out how foolish it it. Several people have pointed out her faults. We looked like crap in a lot of our games last year but still made the tournament. Remember everyone saying "We win ugly"? Its the fact that she simply dismisses us based on our style of play which we won with last year. Rudd has been all over SC lately and AC has been serving up that dunk all year. Didnt see alot of that last year. That flash is nice to offset ugly.
  16. Dana and that article are full of cr@p. One thing to consider is that we watch most games our team plays and know last year wasnt a fluke. Others who dont watch the team as closely associate USF basketball as the doormat it has been for many years, that perception will take time to change. There are a lot of opportunities to get big wins in our conference schedule. If USF whiffs on all or most of those then we dont change the perception. Last year the big east record was chalked up to a weak schedule. This year we have to win half of the games against top 25 team in conference, IMO.
  17. Credit to Athletics for pushing this game and keeping the awareness up. Red Panda, penny pickup, radio spots with $15 tickets, giveaways on 98.7 and social media. They did their part, now people need to come out and make that place loud. After playing the way we have shorthanded our guys deserve it.
  18. MWC giving Boise a sweetheart deal will be the poison pill for attracting any other teams. MWC did what they had to keep a marquee name but I can see why a SDSU or other team would now not want to go there. The renegotiated TV deal favors Boise at the expense of the rest of the league.
  19. Demonstrating we can hit the 3 when the zone collapses on AC is huge. That zone, played much better, is what we are going to see from Syracuse. If we dont shoot a decent clip from 3 next game things will be tough.
  20. This played out as it should have. Not much separates these teams talent wise, it would have been very surprising to see either team sweep the series. Thankfully USF is on the upswing and we can forget about game 1. Agree with the poster that mentioned UCFs sched and what ours will become. Enjoy it while you can. The big east is the hoops equivalent to SEC football this year, tops to bottom.
  21. All I'm saying you build a larger alumni base more quickly when you graduate your students on time or as close as possible to it. I'm all for part time students being able to get an education but it's the traditional student that churns every 4 to 6 years that gets the alumni number up.
