This is what 3 winless seasons gets you
usfsig replied to OcalaBull2's topic in USF South Florida Bulls Athletics
Sirius XM College Sport's Braden Gall had a nail on the head rant about this a little while ago. See transcript below: "Maybe the most ridiculous thing I've read all off-season, I mean I know that's not true... because Baylor obviously. George O' Leary is getting a statue at UCF. 81-60 is his record. They've lost 15 straight games and I don't think I need to remind people that the reason he's at UCF is because he lied on his resume at Notre Dame and got fired in like two weeks. And I certainly need to remind people of one of his players who died at practice and the University was found liable in a lawsuit for the problem. Well George O' Leary was at least in charge of the practice, had the whistle in his mouth, could've stopped things, um and of course the settlement was like $11 million dollars and got dropped to $200 thousand dollars because of some laws down there in Florida. And the point is even... remove one of your players dying in a controversial way and remove lying on a resume, getting fired and ending up at UCF. Remove all of that from the equation and you still have a guy that went 81-60 at a decent program in a middle of the pack league... and he's getting a statue??? Now I realize the donors are paying for this and the donors probably like him cause he took them to a Fiesta Bowl and they built a new stadium for him. I'm very anti statue, I decided today, I'm extremely anti statue. I think there are 3 active coaches potentially... I think Gary Patterson has one, deserving; Bill Snyder's got one, deserving; and Nick Saban's got one, obviously deserving. But making statues of human beings is pretty strange to me. Not sports people. If you invent something that cures cancer, you get a statue. I'm fine with that. if you declare independence from Great Britain, you get a statue. I think we need to set the bar higher than 81-60 with a lot of controversy around your tenure... and not a lot of people that speak highly of your personality, frankly. So I saw the headline and people on social media exploded... like what!? are you kidding me!? why is George O' Leary getting a statue at UCF!? Is he the best thing that's ever happened to UCF? I highly doubt that... Blake Bortles maybe? We were talking about this in the office, who are the best athletes that have ever played at UCF. Probably Dante Culpepper, Brandon Marshall, and Blake Bortles right? I put those 3 up there above anybody. And the first 2 are pretty much head cases and Blake Bortles looks like he's pretty good. A statue really!? You got to be kidding me!? I mean read up about I believe his name is Ereck Plancher. I know the story when it was out there, you go back and read it and there were 4 players that testified that George O' Leary knew that he had a sickle cell problem and this guy was struggling, could see him struggling, and was using the drill as punishment and it was a longer than admitted practice and routine, and they were found admitted... I think it was a 14-day trial, they awarded $11 million dollars to the family because this young person died. Dennis Dodd wrote a scathing column today on CBS Sports.com about how ridiculous this is, with quotes from the attorney who represented the family in the civil suit against UCF and George O' Leary who of course it wasn't the coach, it was the UCF athletic association. I really hate to bring this all back up, but if you're going to put a statue up of somebody, you can't have a guy who's got a controversial death of a player on his resume, that we don't even know if his resume is real. Like the reason you were there is cause you lied at a dream job at Notre Dame to get that job and then you went 81-60. In 12 years... that's like 7-5 every year..." -

Likely means they'll be making a stop by USF afterwards. No way do they just visit one of us. -

I'm ignoring all the talk of the same schools from all of the "insiders". I think it was Jim last night that posted the article about Fox supporting expansion and wanting to increase it's reach. TV execs controlled the last round of expansion and they are controlling this round too. Anyone who thinks otherwise is silly. Remember when BC's AD let it slip that ESPN told them who to take??? If Fox wants into FL, they will get into FL, we just need to hope they see 2 teams with a brilliant future and a heated existing rivalry as a smart deal. http://www.businessinsider.com/scandal-espn-told-acc-which-teams-to-take-from-big-east-conference-2011-10 -

Also, I don't know about taking 6 teams. Regardless if you take 2 or 4 the Big12 is going to piss off ESPN & Fox. It's just a matter of how much are you willing to piss them off... They need to be mindful of the next round of TV negotiations. -

I'm not sure how many on here have XM radio, but I almost exclusively listen to heir college sports channel which at this point is non-stop talking about Big12 expansion. On one of the shoes today, they were talking about the public pandering and how disgusting and how much of a turnoff it is. Made mention of how last round of expansion Marinatto didn't know Rutgers was even gone until McMruphy called him asking about it for a story. It made me smile a little bit and respect what USF is doing here. I think the Big13 presidents will also respect that. -

Joey Knight tweeted out about an hour ago that we should expect a public statement from USF regarding Big12 aspirations in the next few days. I'm guessing it'll be a typical "USF wants to position itself to be the best always" type thing. -

To me, I can't fathom how the Big12 wouldn't want to dip into Florida, not only for the top media markets, but for the recruiting as well. With that being said, great conferences have great rivalries. It would be insanely dumb if they grabbed only 1 of USF/UCF. Thinking rivalries also makes me think USF has a legit shot with their long history of battling Cincy (presumed to be a lock) and WVU. -
This... the dude responds to my tweets, therefore I assume he's pretty accessible. I don't pretend to know your situation Bourbon, but there's really no room to be butt hurt during these times.

Let's give them something to talk about...
usfsig replied to Brad's topic in USF South Florida Bulls Athletics
Just got myself a nice quarterly bonus at work. I know I'm going to give a healthy chunk to USF... but I'm torn. Do I upgrade my donor level or do I purchase 2 more season tickets??? Butts in seats seems to be the biggest necessity. -
Football 2007: Southern Florida, Right?
usfsig replied to Triple B's topic in USF South Florida Bulls Athletics
Heckuva year. Camping out in Leavittown to get tickets to the games was awesome. WVU game was and is still my favorite memory. Attended it with my brother and mom. She was a UF grad but said that stadium was the loudest she had ever been in that night. Still get chills just thinking about it. -
Idk... that might be hard to do with how FAST they'll be playing. It seems their whole hype train this year hinges on the "playing fast" mentality. Heck their catch phrase is #UCFast. I'm a believer of the whole you better learn fundamentals and the game before you try to play fast, or you'll most likely suck. Here's to hoping they go 0-12 again.

Monkey see monkey do... I guess little brother feels that if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/ucf-knights/knights-notepad/os-ucf-football-spring-game-20160413-story.html UCF football coaches spike competition for spring game with a player draft Every Tuesday and Thursday, most of the UCF football coaches get together for some pretty intense pick-up basketball games. And there's a subtle competition among the staff for who is staying in the best shape, with most working out on the track or running the stadium steps when they're not at practice or in meetings. So it only made sense that head coach Scott Frost would add another competitive layer to the Knights' Black and Gold game Saturday. He split the team into two squads, with both coordinators leading a team. On Monday, the coaches held a player draft to assemble their groups for the spring game. Offensive coordinator Troy Walters will coach the gold team, while defensive coordinator Erik Chinander will coach black team. "We got probably the most competitive staff I've been a part of. Whether you're playing basketball at noon or going to workout and run stadiums, there's always a winner and a loser," Walters said. "There's always competition involved so there's gonna be something at stake. I'm not sure what the odds are right now, but in terms of the favorite I heard the gold team was a three-and-a-half point favorite." Chinander added with a chuckle, "That's alright. I've been an underdog my whole life, might as well not start [changing that now.]" Players weren't at the draft, of course. But senior quarterback Justin Holman said the draft element made practice just that much more competitive leading up to the spring game Saturday. "It's fun for the guys," Holman said with a smile. "I can see it out there on the field now and guys are in a group message texting about it. It's a big thing between us and it's a different way of doing things from how we usually did it." Holman added, "[Practice] was definitely more fun because everybody wants to be a first-round draft pick." The spring game, coined UCFastival, format will consist of two halves of a running clock. All punts will be fair catches and there will be no kickoff returns. The game starts at 7 p.m E-mail Shannon Green at sgreen@orlandosentinel.com. Follow her on Twitter at @osknights.

Harbaugh coming to USF again
usfsig replied to bullsbucsfan426's topic in USF South Florida Bulls Athletics
You are not crazy. It was all over recruiting sites and was pretty big news at the time given Harbaugh's wild recruiting tactics (sleepovers at recruits' homes, etc). https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/early-lead/wp/2016/01/22/recruit-says-he-feels-used-after-jim-harbaugh-rescinds-scholarship-offer/ The kid ended up at OU btw. -
Like I said, take it for what you will. I wasn't claiming to know anything. I was just sharing a conversation that was relayed to me. No, he's not "in the know", but struck up a convo with our DC and the way he responded led him to believe that. He took a pic with him and Coach Allen joked suggesting he share it on social media so that people know he's still in Tampa. He also said Coach Allen mentioned a few times that it was a tough choice. However, now it seems there is more info today that Auburn may be still on the search and that he either wasn't offered or decided to turn the job down.
-
Buddy of mine just ran into Coach Allen (in Tampa) and asked him about all of this. Said Coach pretty much told him that he was leaving, but that it wasn't "official" yet and wouldn't directly say it. I know it's hearsay, but I'm just relaying what I was told. Take it for what you all will, but I think he's gone.

You don't think winning 7 of your last 8 would garner any consideration? That's an impressive feat no matter what conference you're in. And yes Memphis only has 2 losses, but it's all about the timing of those losses. They've lost 2 in a row and were ranked in the back end of the top 25. Any team that does that gets the boot from the rankings.
-
If we win next week, I think we deserve to receive votes. And if we win against UCF as well, we should definitely be ranked.

Cincy 3 Point Favorite over USF
usfsig replied to NewEnglandBull's topic in USF South Florida Bulls Athletics
I watched some highlights on YouTube of the Cinci/Tulsa game from this past weekend, and Cinci had some trouble stopping the run. Actually by had trouble stopping everything, allowing Tulsa to gain 588 yds of offense. I hope our defense is up to the task of stopping them, because statistically speaking we should be able to score. -
Yeah I was not a fan of that song. It didn't do much.

Whattya all think in terms of the sense of excitement?
usfsig replied to Brad's topic in USF South Florida Bulls Athletics
It's fantastic to see everyone on here talking about their lack of voices and how sore they are. Truly the most fun we've had as Bulls fans in a long time. The kids on the field definitely heard/felt it and appreciated it. Can't wait for Friday!
