  1. Between Texas footing half of the bill and Skip Holtz coming off the books, yeah... I think we can afford him and a pretty good staff.
  2. Somehow USF has always been able to keep things like this tightlipped. I guessing only local media has any kind of inside track. I'm not a gambling man, but if I were I'd put down all my savings and everything I could borrow that Strong will be inked to a contract before the weekend. The recruiting dead period begins on Monday and we need a coach in place to begin making calls this weekend to reassure our current commits. All signs point to Strong to USF and he'll be signed to a contract before I sit down to my Chik-Fil-A sandwich for lunch this afternoon.
  3. I'm reading that both Cincy and Temple are working out contracts with candidates not named Charlie Strong and that Strong is headed to Tampa tomorrow. Sounds like the cat is in the bag. We got our coach.
  4. It's an odd feeling. Because I feel like this is a win-win-win for all parties involved. We're getting a great coach and recruiter who can hopefully fire up our defense again. Taggart gets that $$$ and a high profile job (enhances our image too). USF will save cash because Texas is still cutting him a check. There are no losers here (yet).
  5. If Strong comes here, we will move from 45-55 recruiting classes to top 25.
  6. Negotiation leverage Strong is NOT going to Temple. We are a much better job.
  7. Relax. There is no way we haven't already made contact with Strong. We just have no reason to leak it to the press like Temple. And frankly, why the hell would he wanna go coach at Temple when USF is a much better job?
  8. In all fairness, I really think we are the best G5 job out there. USF is in a great recruiting neighborhood. We have an administration committed to our football program, and we have deeper pockets than many of our G5 peers. It's just a matter of time before we find the right coach, catch fire, and really take off. We have a lot going for us and our program is more than just one coach.
  9. Houston will regret this in two years. I'm just glad he's off the market. I was worried we were giving him a serious look.
  10. And Houston can have him. He destroys whatever he touches.
  11. One thing is for sure-- he'd be one hell of a recruiter.
  12. I can't help but feel we're so much better off if we bring in Charlie Strong. It seems that the players really related to Taggart. We need another coach who can relate to the kids in our locker room.
  13. Aren't we always blindsided? All of these college coaches are witless cowards who flee in the dark of the night. Doesn't bother informing his players, his staff... I'd be surprised if he even gave a courtesy call to Harlan. When money calls, no one else really matters.
  14. I'm getting weary of this endless cycle for USF football. We can't get win. We either get a crappy coach who plunges this program even further into irrelevance. Or we get a great coach who decides to bolt for bigger and brighter lights. USF will never emerge from "sleeping giant." This is who we are, guys. Might as well get used it. I don't know if I'll be interested in USF football if we pull another .500-ish season.
  15. The one good thing I can say is that at least he's a high-profile name. If we end up losing Taggart to Oregon, I'd rather get a household name than some unknown guy. Also, I wonder who is leaking this? I'm thinking someone in the USF admin is trying to get it out there that we're not idly sitting by and letting other programs court our coach. Maybe they're also trying to improve their negotiating leverage if Taggart does come back and look for an extension.
  16. SBNation is reporting that Kiffin will be our top target if Taggart bolts for Oregon. Good move? http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2016/12/5/13846074/lane-kiffin-south-florida-football-coach-alabama-houston-lsu
  17. So who's on our list to replace Taggart? Let's face it-- even if he ain't going to Oregon, now that his name is out there he's as good as gone anyway. Might as well look to the future. Charlie Strong has to be the first person we call. I'll throw in the obligatory Tony Dungy, but we all know that ain't gonna happen. Perhaps Les Miles want to take a stab at it?
  18. USF does not have the kind of cash to keep any top program in the country from just buying him out. You think Notre Dame or Auburn boosters just won't pony up the cash and flick the flea of USF right away? Our focus should be keeping an eye out for Taggart's successor for when he leaves.
  19. Ref have him a break because he tried to slow his momentum and cradled Milton to the ground Got a bit of a break though
  20. Well, that and he still has a losing record at USF and still hasn't won the conference...
