  1. Ideally I think we'd play him in the fourth quarter of some blowout wins and get a few drives in. Then depending on how the offense looks by conference play go whichever way we needed to. Unfortunately with NC State, Maryland, and Wisconsin I don't know that we will be blowing out our non conference schedule. Might only get one chance to put him in with a huge lead(and thats not a given based on this year). And I doubt he will have much command of the offense by week 1. I don't see him leading a successful USF offense next year. If he is the guy down the stretch I dont like what that probably means.
  2. its not that they are stupid or not. its that they don't come to practice mentally engaged because they just arent buying in. they aren't really behind Taggar so they don't practice sharp so they don't play sharp. whether that is or isn't truly a problem most on this board couldn't say.
  3. Sounds like a plan, let's hope so. But I must again point out the fallacy on here about the false starts and motion penalties. Those increased dramatically when White took over. Those penalties aren't about "the entire offense", they are about White. I expect him to be much more versed in the offense by next year, but let's understand where that is coming from. how does a QB cause false starts? was he whispering a secret snap count to different individuals? Really???? I can't even count how many times he called the snap with multiple people in motion or not lined up in the right position because they hadn't completed their shift yet... Don't give me the "not false starts crap either. It's totally the QBs fault. yea, im giving you that not false starts crap. its ridiculous to complain about a problem when you aren't correctly identifying whats going on.
  4. So how are you suggesting White causes false starts? An inconsistent voice inflection when panicked? He calls for the snap before the shifting players are set. That was where most of the illegal procedures were called. illegal procedure/motion/shift is not a false start.

  6. That is wrong as he got bigger and stronger. How can anyone deny that? Holtz didnt get the best out of him. Holtz basically wasted his talent. And it goes to prove that Taggart always liked his tallent coming out of high school. If Shaw would have chose WKU he would have been that much better during his Fresh or Soph year. No doubt. Primarily I think you deny it based on the fact that he isn't bigger this year. Stronger...probably some. Holtz's S&C guy was terrrible but Shaw was academically ineligible and injured at points in his career early. Seems silly to take a sample of 1 guy...why didn't Taggart make another 15 or so guys better? Shaw got it that this was his senior year, he focused and worked harder, and got enough carries to make an impact. In the end though he didn't do much different than Plancher or Scott in their senior years and didn't have a better ypc than he did last season.

  8. I won't give up on them but I have changed what I expect from this program. Not based on recent performance per se but the conference realignment. In the Big East a few years ago it was reasonable to think we could build a top 25 team and play into a BCS bowl in any given year. Now its just an accepted fact for me that we can expect that only occasionally. We can compete for the conference most years but that may only yield a BCS bid every 2 or 3 years. We will have to be no loss or one loss and its hard to recruit to do that every year in a 2nd tier conference when every major conference team picks through our recruiting territory and gets first dibs. Its just a different level of football right now IMO but that doesn't mean giving up. Just have to be reasonable about the expectations. Hopefully the landscape will be shaken up in a couple years and we can compete at that highest level every year.
  9. I like what Stanford does. But one of the reasons they went that direction is because they knew they would have problems running with Oregon and USC. We can be the most talented team in this conference and in fact should be always in the top tier of talent even given yearly fluctuations. Philosophically I like what Coach Taggart wants to do. He's an offensive coach with a defensive mentality. We know we can field top defenses. Many years all we needed was a competent offense who could score 20 points, pick up a couple first downs, and avoid the mistakes. TOP, field position, turnover margin...these are concepts that could've made some of our good teams of the past even better. In practice you have to adjust your offense based on what you got. This year there were a couple huge hindrances to doing that. FIrst of all we didn't have a QB. Even when we settled on a guy, it was still not someone who had been running this offense long nor playing at this level long. Second thing is NO ONE was familiar with the base concepts of the offense. We were rough in execution at every position, maybe the RB's performed okay over the whole season, but no one else. So really, what were we going to adjust to? Nothing was good enough. The final and kind of unknown thing is how purposely stubborn Taggart was in an effort to "toughen" the team up and install the basic offense. So basically, I think we need to see what Taggart runs next year with more comfort and more talent. I wouldn't just assume that long term we are gonna run the offense that Stanford runs or what the 49ers run, etc.
  10. Bresnahan has a two year contract. Its actually pretty common now among coordinators to have multi year deals. The only big article about I can find is from 2009 when 1 in 4 assistants had multi year deals. http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/2009-11-09-assistants-clauses_N.htm
  11. all of the mike white backers would like to find out. we already know that the other 3 aren't the answer. he was definitely a more accomplished passer in high school. Is it worth burning his redshirt though? CWT sees him in practice daily and if he doesn't think he can go out and win us 4+ games to get us bowling, then i do not think it's worth it. yes it is. auburn last week just burnt their true freshman QBs redshirt and they are 5-1. personally I don't think the other three can win us many games when we can't even score a TD. 6 of last 9 games our offense hasn't scored a TD. I think the experience would be good for him and I think we could see if he has what it akes. If we were rushing for 287 yards a game and Mike White were the best QB, even my a slim margin, he would start, I am sure of it. Auburn is a completely different offense playing at a completely different level. Having seen that QB in practice they felt it was a good move. They didn't do it to appease fans who had the next guy in line mentality. they actually did do it because of injury. funny thing is they did it for 1 or 2 games. not even to take over the job. we should do it based on performance. an even easier decision to make. Which of these things are true: 1. We are one of the top 10 rushing offenses in the country 2. Mike White and Jeremy Johnson are the same person 3. Jeremy Johnson was given the start on a whim, not as a result of months of evaluation by football professionals If you want to give an example where a true freshman who hasn't significantly outperformed his contemporaries came into a terrible offense, moved the ball, and won a bunch of games, I'll be persuaded.

  13. No, they're not assuming. He was great in high school, so that means he's got to be the best choice among our QBs in this college-level offense. Nevermind he won't have time to read or throw most of the time, or that the WRs might not be where they're supposed to be. He'll obviously find a way... Yea, Mike White played on a stacked team, with a couple WR's who would be pushing for PT here as true freshman
  14. Where were you in 2009? A lot of people were making noise about starting BJ over a healthy Grothe. But besides that, he had also redshirted at that point(with some live action his redshirt year), had played probably 12 series of live football, had true dual threat ability to rely on, and was working in an offense full of players who were already comfortable in that offense. This situation is nowhere near as good for White.
  15. UConn, Memphis, and SMU are all within distance.
  16. His comments are not even a little inflammatory.
  17. well that sucks. if we can't build off our losses how do we ever move forward? do we have to wait to win a game via forfeit? or should we schedule a HS team and beat them, then we can start building? Btw, Bench made the comment about having fun and being loose, and didn't say they should be having fun and being loose, he said that those things will come later.
  18. Sure he's been through some of this before but I think when he got to WKU they(the team) had probably accepted how bad they were a little more, they had lost 20 straight. I think our players, certainly a lot of our fans, were completely blindsided with how bad we actually are. Its a gut punch. We were 3-9 last year, but few could bring themselves to believe we weren't really a bowl team. Truthfully, we were a lot closer to 1-11, with a purchased win, than a bowl. Coaching was bad, but the recruiting was bad for a few years too. Even still, people don't accept that some of the "talent" on this team that is in their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of underachieving or not producing is actually not that good. And the players have pride they have a hard time accepting it too. And as they are realizing it, and we are realizing it, it isn't easy to just admit we were wrong and the implication of what that means, while at the same time being positive.
  19. I hope he doesn't have all his money tied up in Dish, he will only be a millionaire or worse if they drop ESPN.
  20. who defined what those qualifications are? if ten guys were qualified could Woolard just grab a name out of a hat and be okay?
  21. 99% of us thought Holtz was a good hire. I did. at the same time, 0% of us are paid good money to make multi million dollar decisions for USF's athletic department. both of these hires were conservative and hard to criticize, but that doesn't make the AD not accountable when/if they don't work out. but besides that I don't like the people in this thread who've given up on CWT.
  22. FWIW, Grothe looked about as bad against Dantonio's Cinci team in 2006 as Eveld looked against Dantonio's MSU team yesterday.
  23. thats nice but the field refs were AAC yesterday.
  24. Don't have any reason to think Deonte was giving up on plays. No, but he dropped two very catchable balls We were all frustrated with the mistakes of Eveld, Welch, Durden, etc. The difference is that they were at least trying. Doesn't mean those guys should stay in if there is someone better, but I'm **** sure I don't want a guy who isn't going to even try as a starter. bingo. those guys lack of talent isn't going to infect the team. poor attitudes will.
  25. You can't mentor heart and effort. You either have it or you don't. Only a kick in the rear will get his attention. I disagree - that's exactly what a mentor is for, especially for 18-22 year olds. A mentor is there to teach, guide, and provide a path to success for ALL individuals. A mentor for only those that work hard is misguided. how exactly would you "mentor" him? to me, sitting him is the mentoring action for his type behavior. At this level of the game you can't waste time having to tell a player its a team game and you're supposed to play hard. that's not mentoring that's pampering. he's not going to learn that its not about him by coaches going out of their way to cater to him. no, the lesson he needs requires benching him, IMO.
