  1. The original scheme wasn't a very good fit. However if you took the players we have right now and went back to that offense it is hard to think that we wouldn't still be a decent offense. The (lack of) talent, and losing attitude of the guys on those rosters just made it so much worse. Taggart has always been the de facto OC. What was once one of the worst offenses in football is now the best under the same guy. When he says he is planning on keeping Woodie this is the only thing that gives me hope.
  2. Louisville, WVU, Utah, and TCU have done well with their moves. Rutgers, and Cuse have not. Some others have had mixed results. It's almost like their are multiple factors.
  3. Ha. Well we tried to run an offense with a lot of presnap movement for his first two years and it was miserable. So hopefully he won't waste the down. We have been much better using tempo to force misalignments and basic defenses.
  4. No, but when that story originally broke, that provision is not actually in Herman's contract but was a memo between the AD and Herman.
  5. poor timing by the WR and defender on that pass but excellent strength and concentration by Wilcox
  6. this team has shown pretty strong resolve this year, I'm not worried yet but eventually it will bite us
  7. We have long past the point where Bronson should be making the catch, and are to the point we shouldn't be throwing him the ball.
  8. Holtz didn't offer White. He didn't seem too concerned with recruiting the QB position at all. Larry Scott got Taggart to offer White his first day on the job. White was put in a terrible position here. We lacked talent everywhere on offense, the scheme wasn't clicking in general, and he was thrown out there without enough preparation. That's not to blame CWT, it's just the reality of it. WKU is a great place to be a QB. Brohm runs an offense(Petrinos) that makes average QBs look good and good QBs look great. http://www.tampabay.com/sports/college/mike-white-hopes-to-answer-usf-bulls-quarterback-questions/1274253
  9. Well obviously we are seeing a learning curve here but in the grand scheme of things we are looking at a guy in his 5th game as a DC, and he didn't have much of a background in the 4-2-5. FSU was a nightmare, but on the brightside this game and Syracuse were terrible in the first half but much much improved products in the second half. I wouldn't write off the rest of the season as though Woodie and the defense can't improve.
  10. that is one way to look at it. You might also say that if we do make it to the AAC game it will be because the defense improves.
  11. that POTENTIAL matchup is a long way away. If this is our D I would not assume we will play Houston at all.
  12. I agree. its just an easy thing to criticize but it has worked fine for plenty of teams. its specific to the personalities you have on staff.
  13. I wouldn't bother with Mathies...we aren't going to fix things by putting another inexperienced guy in charge. Jancek being more active might be a stopgap though.
  14. thats funny. But Miles is an offensive coach who has just failed to put good offenses on the field.
  15. I don't think we can play today worried about 2020. It doesn't work in today's college football environment. There is always a possibility we might be entering 2020 without quality WR's but that assumes we strike out on about 20 recruits between now and then. It also assumes Solomon is going to be good enough to matter but not so good that he would leave earlier. And another unfortunate reality is that a lot of guys miss years with injuries at some point in their 4-6 years as a player anyway. That is before you get into the details of the individual player...some guys need to be on the field to stay focused, academically, physically, and civically. Some guys need to be on the field to stay at USF. Those things we don't really know and aren't in a position to judge. At other specific positions and players at different stages of physical development it would also be a more questionable call, but he is physically ready and at a position where he might contribute even in limited situations.
  16. meh. those guys came out trying to lay it on thick with x's and o's(particularly McElwain) but a couple blown coverages, a couple awesome plays made by D Watson, and that "technical" stuff all sounds a whole lot less impressive. in the end all these coaches are just watching the big game and not coaching in it, so why do they deserve more respect than Willie? Willie is also a few years younger and has spent less time having to be a refined media presence in these type environments. this is just tv.
  17. We do lose Tashon Whitehurst. He was a nice contributor, but overall the LB position will have a lot of talent and depth.
  18. The recruiting stuff was a lot more than just breaking commit news first, their was a lot more depth. I always came here for a good portion of the fan talk, but Newberg particularly had a lot of insight from recruits, HS coaches, family members, etc that was entertaining and worth what I paid. Also, a lot of the members were quality posters and their wasn't a lot of muck to wade through for the regular stuff either. However when Newberg gets involved with something, and leaves the recruiting to someone else, recruiting coverage inevitably goes downhill fast.
  19. You do a disservice by only mentioning how bad his teams were here, and ignoring the fact he did a terrible job recruiting and we suffered for years from that too.
  20. USCe problem is even though they are a top 30 program right now, they are still the 4th best program in their division, 9th or so best program in their conference, and 2nd best program in their state. Makes things complicated because their direct competition is just better.
