  1. Gilbert worked under Philip Montgomery and Dino Babers prior to Texas, both of whom are Art Briles guys. He is 100% going to keep the offense open if he comes here.
  2. Texas salary - $400,000 Experience outside of Strong - he worked at Ga Tech from 04-09 under DC's John Tenuta(not coaching currently) and Dave Wommack(currently at Ole Miss as DC) and HC's Chan Gailey and Paul Johnson. Also worked with FSU DC Charles Kelly at Tech, then an assistant. From Apopka, FL
  3. some sites do a poor job handling the number of commitments. we have a small class because we have recruited and retained talent the last 4 years. these rankings often reward schools that are oversigning underwhelming talent.
  4. I wonder what the buyout clauses on the Texas assistant coaches staff are if they take another job. Texas had a 4.5 million dollar staff and their lowest paid guy wouldve been our second highest. Gilbert was making $850,000. I would think even with a sizable bump in our pool we are going to pay an OC around half of that. Bedford will have better opportunites IMO, even as a position coach vs DC. I wonder if Strong had much of a relationship with Dan McCarney.
  5. Texas's offense was 19th in yards this year. I dare say they did not have the dominant player personnel we did either. It's not like they are inept. It's also not a given that Taggart won't be taking one or more members of our staff, I'm pretty open to some of their staff coming, just depending on how things work out.
  6. Identifying Strong was easy. Lets see the full terms before deciding how great a job Harlan really did.
  7. interesting, I had speculated the kind of opposite might happen where Texas accepted less of the first two year salary offset for USF to play a single game at Texas cheap in the future season. Those are often $ 1million+ dollar games now. A home and home for more cash now is a little better option for USF though, IMO.
  8. could be lots of things... assistant money, IPF are the most likely short term. USF could not commit to OCS or most importantly the future of the conference
  9. just needs to win with Taggart's recruiting first.
  10. +1,000,000 Most underrated aspect is the psychology. Most overrated thing is playcalling. Organizational, management, psychological, and recruiting skills are what set coaches apart at higher levels. And the management and organizational skills mostly fall to the head coach and admin staff. Find me assistants who can recruit, motivate, and foster leadership.
  11. The dead period starts Monday. Getting CS was/is always our only shot to have someone in place prior. I do not blame USF for that, that is just the timing of everything.
  12. IMO, total compensation is used because in coaching contracts the total pay is some combination of base salary, media appearances, commercial endorsements, performance incentives, etc.
  13. CS has the contractual obligation to seek another job, it is not a matter of if he seeks another job. Texas has financial interest in him taking a job which is why they fly him out. if CS and USF weren't okay with a Texas booster tagging along he wouldn't be in there (was a Texas booster even in negotiations?). I don't think its nearly as contentious as some believe.
  14. One of the reasons you promote from within is to avoid all the downsides of a new coach. Woodie was stepping in to the same players and system, the first year thing doesn't hold a lot of wait to me. Some, but not a lot. It was Allen who had the task of installing a new system and integrating with the existing players in his first year. Guys were out of place more and worse at "tackling" this year as well, the aggressiveness was not the only difference I saw. That said, Woodie closed the year with moderate improvements, we often played better second half's, and despite a terrible statistical performance came up with some things that got the Navy came in hand before the first quarter was over. Still seems like a perfect time to make a change and build a great defense not a defense that hangs on
  15. Some of you are really getting worked up and speaking ill of a man based on a meeting you know nothing about. Their may be plenty of time for complaining if and when you actually learn what CWT's intentions were but very likely he is still going to be our coach next year.
  16. Eddie Robinson did not have the opportunity to coach bigger schools because during the prime of his career, black men coached at black colleges.
  17. On the first hand, Dungy advocates heavily for African-American coaches. CWT is maybe the brightest young African-American coach at the moment and he is going to push for him to get the best opportunities he can. He pushed USF to hire CWT as well. Having interests above USF does not make him a fraud.
  18. Yep, Adams was just hampered by being on an offense with more running game and more weapons than those other guys. Noel Thomas, Anthony Miller, and Linnell Bonner also had some bonkers stats.
  19. They run a site that is a professional rumor mill speculating on people's jobs, nothing polite about that.
  20. not with our OOC schedule next year. maybe if we had Oklahoma and Louisville on the schedule
  21. I doubt it is just about a raise. Last year he went after a good chunk of increased money for the assistant salary pool. There are a lot of things required to produce a consistent, top notch, big time, program that USF still lacks that he can bargain for.
  22. Oregon can pay a lot more than us, if they are willing to overpay. CWT is maybe a 2.5 million dollar coach if you look at the market and his trophy case. We should be able to get close enough to that number. The facilities is a more complex situation but if you want to look at those type things, we have a huuuuge location advantage for a guy who grew up here and his best quality is recruiting.
  23. Did ok with. Rodney Adams. Hudson and Valdes Scantling haven't been great players yet but are doing fine. I don't think it has much to do with CWT. Transfers and JUCOs frequently have issues of their own creation. CWT can't baby individuals, all he can do is give them a chance here.
