  1. Do you have any info on that song... composer etc? If it isn't an obvious song... let me know as much as you can.
  2. Any suggestions to the Herd of Thunder's music book can be accepted now! Ill check up on the thead to see what you mention. I know a few of ya mentioned stuff when we went to the bowl game. Sorry for never getting any music to ya'll, I still don't have the CD's! Anyway, any songs you think might be good, I will foward them to our director. Thanks!
  3. Amazing post... USFPD do carry tasers... Security do not... and Tom V. doesnt (that we know of) either. Besides, Tom was in Hartford with me at the Women's B-Ball Tourny. Figures the men give us a win when I'm gone, and the women give me a fat 'L' when I'm there. Grrr....
  4. The contents of this thread have been moved [link=http://www.thebullspen.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=ce9876;action=display;num=1141836449]HERE[/link] by Velcro.
  5. Rod was down with CJL near the pep band. I gave CJL a good old hand shake and shook my head at Rod. Rod doesn't like us either... haha. **** good game though... I have NEVER seen the dome like that in my 3 years here. I doubted our guys with everyone else... they showed again that they can hold on... just wish they could push a little more...
  6. The Athletic Band's office (mainly the show band director) got the gig. It was a lot of fun. All of our gigs are posted on the web site at http://band.arts.usf.edu/sbgigs.htm We may be doing either a Yankees spring training game or another storm game. Depends on who lets us do what. Thanks guys
  7. Lol.... ok... I was looking for stuff Studet Gov can do... I can't force Greeks to go or make prof's require it! I was looking more for locations for scrolling electronic signs (near cooper, etc) tell everyone of upcoming events. Things that really are possible.
  8. Everyone here has good ideas... But what can we do to draw more STUDENTS out to games? BBall or football... but mainly basketball (it is in season!).
  9. I doubt they would require it, but maybe it could be a "field trip" or something... afterall... its part of college life... and a great way to support the university overall! ATTEND GAMES!
  10. lol... yea, I have that printed out in a folder in the SG office. Full of extremly good ideas... I'm just fishing for more!
  11. You might have been joking... but it's a good idea! Well, at least, UE students could be REQUIRED to attend games? I'll put that into my research of the UE program... as I have to review (and help it out) academic wise.
  12. What does everyone here think Student Government can do to help get students out and support the university? Marketing ideas basicly. Anything that will draw students to bb games (and football if you must...). I can't promise that I can implement anything... but I can suggest it!
  13. It's just true... I know we all want to grow up and play with the other big kids... but you have to look at what we have acomplished. Things should only get better. A better looking Dome should go a long way in bringing in fans. We need to fix up the inside (seating, painting, overall interior overhual) AND fix up the outside (landscaping?, paint, whatever). Off topic... I've said it a billion times on here... we need more support from the student body. Period. Will it come when we win more games? Of course. But, now is the time to start drawing students in... however we can do it. Like always... we need a little more pride in the university and student aimed marketing... If its a great atmosphere (students attend), the community might swing by too. Seriously... if OUR students dont care... why would the community care? We dont believe in ourselves!
  14. Current (Updated for Sp06) Headcount Total Students 41,124 2.1% Undergraduates 31,741 3.4% Grad I (Master/EdS) 5,292 -3.0% Grad II (PhD) 1,817 5.5% Medical Professional 433 -3.1% Non-Degree Seeking 1,841 -5.1% http://usfweb2.usf.edu/infomart/eprofiles/currentprofile/eProfilesUSFSystem.htm
  15. Simple... We need more current students to attend games... and get more pride in the university they attend. C'mon... 38,000 TAMPA CAMPUS alone... 43,000+ overall. All of that... and we are crazy happy when 5,000 people attend games. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE! ****, I'm in band, so I have to go to a selected amount of games... but I've been to all the home games (minus 3 due to classes). Advertising for the games must be better. I know it will take more than some posters or paper cards to get people to go crazy of our team (maybe a win would help), but at least more people will know about it. I've seen some effort from Athletics, for the 'Nova game... but thats it. It needs to get better. If anyone else has any ideas... let me know. I work for SG and then I'm going to go talk to Kosha Irby in Athletics. Attendance blows, we need to do something to help our team.
  16. The Herd of Thunder IS expensive to move... or in your wording "wear." But the marching band DOES get used... we attend more away games than about half of the D1 university bands out there by going to just 1 away game! Not to mention us attending the bowl game. The university uses the band as they see fit. We have three "bands" (the Marching Band (football) , the Pep Band (Basketball), and the Show Band (special events). The Marching Band has upwards of 215 members and costs A LOT to send anywhere. To send the marching band anywhere... it must be during the Fall semester (its a class offered only in the fall). THANK ATHLETICS FOR SUCKING IT UP AND TAKING EVERYONE! (band, cheerleaders, sundolls, support, etc) The Pep Band has around 75 members (we take turns going to games) and are hardly sent anywhere for special events. It is really only designed for basketball games (we have a lot of BB games). The Show Band is made up of 27 members and has 10 "gigs" a term. These performances include many different university and local events. University events trump the local events, for OBVIOUS reasons. The Show Band can have no more than 10 gigs as it is a "paid" band. Students in this band are therefore obligated to only go to 10 gigs. A lot of gigs this spring term revlove around the 50th anniv. of USF. GIG SUMMARY for the Spring: Charlotte Bowl Gigs (Those count as ONE gig) Charlotte, NC MLK/50th Anniv 11:00 - 1:30pm Tuesday, January 17th On Campus Taste of the Arts 12:00 - 1:00pm Wednesday, Feb 1st On Camups USF Day in Tallahassee TBA (this will be an ALL DAY gig 5am-10pm - 2 gig credits) POSSIBLE GIGS We're working on a Yankees Spring Training game, and a possible minor league Hockey Game as well!! ---- We go where we can to help the university's image. We are limited. You can't expect band students in Show Band to go to more than 10 SB gigs, 6+ football games, 3 to 4 exhibitions, and 20 basketball games WHILE taking a full course load (3/4ths or more of the band are not music majors - Med students, etc). Even music majors have tough schedules (requiring many rehaerals that count as only 1 credit a term!). Do your homework... just becuase we skip over a bunch of drunks at gasperilla one year doesn't mean we arn't being used! Take a look at the HOT Calendar before talking trash next time. http://band.arts.usf.edu/calendar.htm'>http://band.arts.usf.edu/calendar.htm All of this information can be found at http://band.arts.usf.edu (even though I'm the one that posts it, haha, you can still check if you want)
  17. It's coming... in ohhhhh 2008! Located in the new MC... that is if that Admin doesn't strike it down. The new MC sounds pretty sweet, I hope they don't f up. http://www.sg.usf.edu/files/Search%20for%20the%20Perfect%20Union.pdf errr... it talks about it on page 34 of 51! Figured a page number might help ya'll.
  18. See, this is what I am talking about. I don't have a clue what it would take... but we need to yank all of those freshmen out of their dorms/apts. on Sat. People work, etc -- but there are people who just go " ehh I don't feel like it." We need to remind people multiple times a day on campus that a game is this week. It might be horrible to think that a student doesn't know we have a game at Ray Jay or the Sun Dome, BUT I BET YOU more will come with more effort (ESP. Student Government). Maybe something the new SG marketing department can work on? It won't solve everything... DUH... but it wont hurt to start force feeding some bull pride on campus!
  19. Yea, I can't spell.... what else is new. That isn't the worst spelling error on this board by far. Of course they haven't made room for more students, we don't have an increase in student attendance! I think SG and Athletics needs to work on getting more students to these games. That of course goes for community members and Alumni, but I see an effort to get them there... and less of an effort (if any other than free tickets, which SHOULD be enough effort) to get current students out. I don't believe that we would have 43,000+ studentts in the seats... but I DO believe we need to start getting the student body invloved more. We need as many of them as possible! THAT IS WHAT I AM GETTING AT HERE. Are you seriously about to tell me that the student body isn't a factor in USF Athletics? ...or shouldn't be?
  20. Well, I know I have alot to learn... thats why I'm in college. Although, in this case... I do know that it will take the caring support of our students to take us to that "next level." Only then will we be able to do more. Can you honestly tell me that USF's goal shouldn't be to put all 43,000+ students in Ray Jay? The SCHOOL should be behind the SCHOOL'S TEAMS!!!!! Obvoiusly, I am saying this with complete disregard to normal facts of life (cough cough... MONEY!). We need the community too, but we need the students first and formost. After all, it's college football. If we had 43,000+ students acting the way the 5,000 students/alums were at the bowl game... WOW. People would take us seriously AND our team might have more motovation (knowing the student body loves them).
  21. I have serious doubts that open practices would really help our image, besides making the people on this board happy (die hard fans). USF can only do so much advertising in the community. In fact I think we should do less in the community... and start working on our STUDENTS! The students are the university, therefore the students must back the athletic programs. The STUDENTS need to care more. The H.O.T. can't just roam around to every local event and perform (hello... the band costs how much to send somewhere /HINT:$XXX,XXX). The Show Band has done Gasperilla a few times, but that doesn't ever get anything more that drunk people in our faces. They won't even remember the band was there. The Show Band and other Athletic Bands perform at UNIVERSITY EVENTS... and we try to get, what should be our TRUE fan base "OUR STUDENTS," pumped up and excitied. WHERE HAS THE SHOW BAND PERFORMED? The Grand opening of the USF Athletic Building, Tampa Campus Festival of States, St. Petersburg Gasparilla Day Parade, Tampa USF Day, Tallahassee USF Parents Day, Tampa Campus Tampa Bay Storm Football Games, Tampa School of Music Taste of the Arts, Tampa Campus USF St. Petersburg Homecoming, St. Petersburg USF Lakeland Day, Lakeland Desoto USF Parade, Desoto County N.C.A.A. Tournament Site Selection at the St. Pete Times Forum, Tampa And many many others... I could care less about 66 year old Bob and Mary Joe who just happen to have $120 bucks a game to play around with. THEY DONT GET INTO THE GAME LIKE A YOUNG STUDENT SHOULD! I'm not downing Alumni, just people on this boards efforts to drag random tampa folk into our problems. We, students & alumni, need to fight for our team. Don't force the blame on ANYONE else.
  22. Wow... I hope our guys stand up and fight tonight. To win agaisnt WVU would be big... but I don't know if I could have faith in these guys after whats happened so far.
  23. Whenever they let me have the audio files my good man... you will have #8.... the CD won't be out for a while though... it's a professional CD and needs time (its only been a month!). I've been looking for a release date from the staff, but they arn't sure yet. I'll be sure to announce it on this board... and of course the HOT website.
