  1. best post from Brett I've seen so far. we've been arguing about it here (with smazza and a few others...professorbull i believe) that the recruiting rankings aren't entirely accurate. They aren't completely off base, but there are too many factors (such as the ones mentioned in those articles that Brett mentions and in the comments made on his blog) to call them very accurate.
  2. Ridiculous. I would be content with McCarney as a DC or even head coach, but to have him as a DLine coach is awesome. If we lose the promoted Wally Burnham, now also Associate Head Coach along with being DC, then McCarney could easily be promoted to DC if he wanted. Also great to have a great replacement for WRs. We have a lot of talent at both positions and hopefully they continue to get better and our recruiting is even better next year (and maybe this last day but that's a little soon).
  3. I think next year will show (again) how far ahead of UCF we are.
  4. yep. no reason to judge him, he wants to come back and will.
  5. wow, according to scout, edenfield had offers from auburn, south carolina, and southern miss. patrick hampton had offers from indiana and purdue. Edenfield video: http://64.237.99.126/clips/2007627.wmv
  6. rightfully so. notre dame game alone does not erase his record. we need to make big east tourney.
  7. I hesitate to call them "kids" but seeing as how you have to be 17 to enter your senior year (in general) and the year is only halfway done(since august), i'd say about half of the players are 18 now, and half are still 17.
  8. ford is 20 he might leave after a few years, as tampaboi says, especially if he is as good as we hope. 2 or hopefully 3 years would be great if he pans out and would give us time to develop plancher more (he could very well contribute a lot this year anyway) and find a replacement, such as jackson.
  9. Actually 2 new commits Claude Davis, DE, Lakeland, 3-Star Kvinski McGee, TE, Pahokee, 3-Star I think technically Davis was our first commit and has recently reaffirmed his commitment. Hope this last weekend was enough to hold everyone else, too.
  10. great win. have to make big east tourney now to make it mean something for b-ball team, though. good game for recruits for both football and basketball, though.
  11. butch davis will have a top 15 class this year leavitt has been here 10 years and should be pulling in top 25 recruiting classes really? you think UNC is going to move up from 43rd and 34th (rivals and scout)? wow, you sure expect a big final week, huh? tell me why a kid that grew up liking other florida schools and barely knows USF should come here. just because you say so? it takes time to gain momentum and tradition, and we are gaining both every year.
  12. well, at least he didnt join the dark side in alabama. awesome.
  13. heh, no problem. that's a nice list, I wouldn't get rid of it either. if you want to risk your job I'm sure the list of other star players would include more successes just because there are more of them, but I'd assume a much lower percentage work out. I just hope our 1 5-star recruit works out as well as most people hope and that all of our 2 and 3-star players continue to work out as well as a lot of them have.
  14. sounds good. more overall yards from offense with matt doing more just scrambling and less designed runs. that's been my hope. he's so good at scrambling and making plays but being able to do that in addition to a great running game would just improve the overall offense and keep drives going, so his passing stats could very well increase.
  15. After reading this entire thread I'm very curious why no one pays attention to this description of our class. It's good.
  16. Like I said before... "...Coming off a great year (Miami & FSU on the decline) we had the ability to pull in some big names coming out of florida. It just seems like we are always being mentioned with some of those big names but these kids go else where..." WHY...? because there are over 100 schools to choose from with many factors. It will actually be easier for Marve to start at Miami than here with Grothe here. why did we get Mike Ford? because his cousin is here (amarri jackson) and he's been convinced how good we can be. we also have a need at RB. losing a few high-star players every year is not a sign of anything. every school that goes after high recruits loses a lot of them every year because, again, there are so many to go to and so many reasons for going. we have not quite reached the level of national media attention to get our game talked about every week on college gameday and get our highlights shown every week. we seem to be very close to that, so calm down about the recruiting. with how well we did last year and how good we look for next year, doesn't recruiting our best class ever excite you? do you realize we have a REALISTIC chance to beat auburn next year? we have a real chance to be ranked. it's not far fetched at all for us to win the big east. how are we doing badly by having our best class this year? can it get better? yes. and it will, but it's already been getting better. stop worrying about it. enjoy it.
  17. anthony henry and k mitchell I believe. nicholas could have been invited but apparently it was a deep position and we'll see where he gets drafted. anyway, I like to think of the rankings in terms of percentages. I think there is a higher percent chance that a 5-star guy will perform than a 2-star. I think leavitt and staff has done a great job finding higher-than-usual percentage guys that were underrated, but of course getting more 4 and 5 star plays will be nice. until then we can recognize that a lot of our players are underrated and we'll be just fine. I also think that recruiting rankings for schools only tells you a lot if you are seperated by a good amount, and you can really only tell the effect of a class after a few years as many have said before.
  18. we might not win another game! PLAYOFFS?!!
  19. well, since i'm going to both games I for 1 don't want more time inbetween games.
  20. I agree. I'll just be more excited to get better athletes, even if you don't really know until they play, because we seem to be doing a great job already.
  21. ok, I know the "darksiders" get a lot of crap for dumping on the team after a bad loss or something, but playing well 1 game is not a reason to say Mac has done a "great job." That's ridiculous. Good game today, unfortunate we didn't pull it out, but we really needed that win. Perhaps it is a sign of things to come, but a few games does not make up for seasons of losing.
  22. This explains much. what's that? I went to UF for a year.
