  1. I prefaced the original post with the fact that it was just a rumor, but one from some guys that have been pretty spot on about a few things in the past. As for his eligibility, he would have 2 years remaining, not just one. As for whether or not he is better than what we currently have....I'm not going to even dignify that with a response.
  2. I would have to call you out and take exception on this one as well. As previously stated, he was recruited by Louisville, Stanford, USF, and Arkansas....hardly the Sisters of the Poor. He was 3 Stars out of high school and ranked #35 overall in the nation, ahead of a young man named Brion Carnes who we were after pretty hard for awhile and Stephen Morris who had a pretty decent season at Miami this year. Not saying that he is a savior, but I think you would be hard pressed to make the argument that he wouldn't at least be an upgrade over our current options.
  3. If we can get two years out of Trickett and have White ready to go as a RS Sophomore with 3 years remaining, that would be the ideal situation at this point. FSU is absolutely stacked at QB, you have to imagine that at least one of those four will want to transfer out and Trickett, if graduating this Spring, would be in the best position to immediately contribute and get PT somewhere.
  4. Well, I will rely on his stats that suggest he has the ability to be a solid QB. He was diagnosed with some weird disease that prevented him from gaining weight, but I heard he is finally putting on some pounds. http://espn.go.com/college-football/player/_/id/501098/clint-trickett
  5. On paper and on film he is absolutely better than any current QB on our roster. If he loses out on the job at FSU it won't necessarily be because he didn't perform. They have 4 QBs battling it out and one of them is 6'6'' and 230#. It will really come down to whether they want a pocket passer or a dual threat. http://www.seminoles.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/013113aaa.html
  6. I have a few friends that are big Seminole boosters and the buzz in Tally is that if (and it is a big if) Clint Trickett hasn't solidified the starting QB postion after the Spring, he will be looking to transfer to USF. By the end of Spring he will have enough credits to graduate and would be able to start immediately as a Graduate transfer. This is a big if, but I am excited by the possibility. Even though he is a beanpole, he has a live arm and has shown that he can play when he has had to step in for EJ Manuel in the past. I will be keeping a close eye on the FSU QB battle this Spring.
  7. I think it is important to remember that we lost out big time when Waverly Austin was deemed ineligible. He is contributing 5 ppg and 4 rpg on a very decent Oregon team. He would have been a major factor for us here and would have helped to solidify our interior defense and rebounding. No one can argue with the direction this team is going. We just need a few more pieces and we will be where we need to be.
  8. The Marlins just traded USF's former pitching coach to the Blue Jays.
  9. +1...there is no way that skippy pays out a million dollars before 2013 to get out of his contract. USF coach Skip Holtz has signed a contract extension through the 2017 season that will pay him $2 million annually, the school announced Friday. Holtz is going into his third season with the Bulls, having gone 13-12 in his first two years. His previous deal was set to expire in 2014. The school also announced a new six-year contract for men's basketball coach Stan Heath. “We’re pleased to be able to extend both coach Holtz and coach Heath,†athletic director Doug Woolard said in a statement. “They’re great representatives for both USF and their respective programs. I have great confidence in the leadership they are providing and the future of both our football and men’s basketball programs.†Should Holtz decide to leave USF before Dec. 8, 2013, he would have to pay a $1 million buyout. That number goes down to $500,000 if he decides to leave between Dec. 9, 2013 and Dec. 8, 2014. There are also some pretty major incentives for Holtz should he reach certain benchmarks. Winning BCS national championship: $500,000 Participating in BCS national championship game: $400,000 Winning conference championship and Big East representative in BCS bowl: $200,000 Selected for a BCS bowl game with at-large bid: $150,000 Selected for Russell Athletic Bowl: $50,000 Selected for any other non-BCS bowl: $25,000 Winning Big East Coach of the Year honors: $50,000 Final Top 10 ranking, in either AP or coaches' poll: $100,000 That would be if he left for another gig. I promise you, if he simply resigned and sat out of CFB for at least one season, USF would not be seeking the buyout money.
  10. coachspeak. he's been saying that for 3 weeks now. if you actually take responsibility, something should be changed or coached or fixed. the team has not improved at all, and if it has, another area has gone unchecked and cost us. obviously, coaches do not speak very specific, but i haven't heard anything resembling any sort of detail like "we're going to work on play calls that work," or "we're going to do pass rushing drills," or "we're going to move some players around and try a few new things." instead all we hear is "We're going to go out there and roll up our sleeves." Amazing, isn't it? That's exactly what Jimbo Fisher said after the loss to NC State. Fire him, too? It doesn't matter what he says, hm101. Here, it's falling on deaf ears. Wins are the only thing that will fix the whining and complaining, not words. Skip, knows that, too. He just can't say, "**** you people, we're working on it.", so he has to say something because silence makes it worse. It's not the fact that we are losing, it is how we are losing and who we are losing to. We have consistently lost close games in the second half. That is almost entirely coaching. That is what is so frustrating. We aren't consistently winning close games. I will give you the Nevada game, but that took 2 hail marys after we were beaten in every facet of the game for almost 3 quarters. I don't think that anyone who is complaining after what amounts to almost two straight seasons of ineptitude. We haven't had a barrage of unfortunate injuries. We haven't been decimated by graduation. Coach Holtz can save his weak lip service, at this point only results are going to matter. If I consistently disappointed my boss for two consecutive years, I would be seeking new employment. He is going to get another season, but he hasn't shown me squat as a head coach.
  11. I wonder contractually if Skip Holtz has ultimate/final say on the coaching staff. If he doesn't, one way to force him out would be to bring in assistant coaches and coordinators that he doesn't get along with. This would hopefully lead to him resigning or taking a much smaller buyout than he is contractually entitled to receive.
  12. Our boys can do this and the redemption project begins with FSU. I'm not a believer in moral victories, but I will actually accept one on Saturday. FSU might be the best football team we have ever lined up against in terms of personnel, speed, and depth. If we can go out there and make it competitive, I can see us turning even a loss into some momentum.
  13. Holtz has to completely, and I mean COMPLETELY, change the philosophy he has used since he got here. He is going at these football games in the conservative mode of I don't want to screw up; I'll bend-but-don't-break, don't go to manned coverage (remember when we did that regularly as a defense), don't bum rush the offensive line to get a sack, drop LB's into zone coverage rather than playing tight to the line and having somone pickup a receiver dropping in late, run when passing is called for to be sure you don't throw an interception, take the FG, take the knee, etc. He needs to change his demeanor from Mister Rogers to Mr. Rambo. He needs to light into coaches and players alike. After all, that's why he rented in Tampa, to be able to move on to the next big job around the corner. Woolard knew it, that's why he felt to retain him he needed to extend him after a crappy season. Without a complete change by Holtz, USF football is doomed for the foreseeable future and Holtz will forever be known as Skippy Kragholtz. Good luck getting your next HC job with that nickname. I don't know about anything else in this post, because I stopped at "that's why he rented in Tampa". A simple Property Appr. search shows that he purchased his house in April of 2011. He received the extension in July of 2012. Things like this invalidate everything you post. That means alot coming from someone whose only connection to my alma mater is through marriage. Is it your second or third marriage? It's my 5th marriage. Insults are great, BUT, your still F.O.S. sitck to speculation, don't throw out B.S.. Fact, Skip needs to change or go. You, B.S. My quote, taken from a comment in GA's blog, that unfortunately I took as the truth was that "he rented in Tampa" which he did. That is an undisputed fact. He doesn't still rent since you obviously found his purchase of a home in Tampa. Why pray-tell did Woolard extend Holtz after a losing season if he didn't think he would bolt? Why the additional buyout in his contract? Who asked for and pushed for Holtz's extension? Why the very conservative coaching approach that may be leading us to another losing record? Many questions need answering if these things didn't happen/aren't happening because he was looking past USF to the next job. P.S. Are there any kids who went to USF that you can adopt? You can be Bull-by-Adoption! Because I can see this thread is about to be hijacked, I don't see why you are making it personal against this guy. He stated a fact that Holtz owns a home in Tampa and purchased that home before his contract extension. People get so worked up on here, it kind of gets ridiculous.
  14. He's on the Board of Trustees at Florida State. Ain't gonna happen. And yeah, they tear thru the Big East (the games that count) and make a bowl with a winning record....I'd call that salvaged. Derrick Brooks is no longer a member of the FSU BOT. He has been acting as the President and co-owner of the Tampa Bay Storm for the past season. He is extremely familiar with fundraising and with corporate leadership. I asked him point blank on my radio show this past Thursday if he would take the AD position at USF if offered and he all but said that he would. He would love to follow in LRS's footsteps and continue building on what has been, up to this point, a wonderful story at USF.
  15. This is the type of positive flow that we all need right now. Let's focus on what can be. At the end of the day we are 2-2. If we had lost that heart-breaker to Nevada and beat Ball State, we wouldn't be in the crisis mode that we are all in right now. 2-2 is 2-2. If we somehow manage to do our annual "pull a game out of our asses" special on Saturday, the entire tone for the rest of the season will change. The most dangerous thing in the world is a desperate animal, cornered, with nothing to lose. I think we see a completely different team on Saturday. Do we win? Probably not. But there is a reason this game opened +14. The "experts" saw something in FSU's 1st half performance that led them to believe that they are somewhat susceptible.
  16. Listen, I want Holtz out of town as much as the rest of you, but he isn't going anywhere right now. I think Doug Woolard needs to go as well, as I alluded to in my post last week about Derrick Brooks being our next Athletic Director. However, none of that is going to happen anytime soon. In the meantime, do you think this season can be salvaged? What in your mind would it take to consider this season a marginal success? A win over FSU? 4 or more Big East conference wins? In my opinion, we can save face with a strong showing against FSU. Lose by 10 points or less and hopefully make it out of the game with minimal injuries. From there, we need to run off a couple of wins in conference. Overall, I would consider a 7-5 campaign a success at this point. If anything, I hope that our senior leaders will step up and help get us to a bowl game.
  17. Yes, also on the Board of Trustees for FSU. He is absolutely qualified, IMO.
  18. Derrick Brooks is President of the Tampa Bay Storm, is educated, does charitable work including fundraising. I think he would be an excellent candidate for the job, just have a good Associate AD working with him and you are money.
  19. I was just interviewing Derrick Brooks on the radio show I do every Thursday night. After gushing over the return of FSU football I asked him if offered would he accept the position of athletic director at USF and without saying yes, he pretty much said that he would. He said that he would have to strongly consider it and it would be an honor to follow in the footsteps of Lee Roy Selmon and continue to build upon what LRS started. Not saying it would happen, but I would love to see it!
  20. They are not letting "new" season ticket holders purchase them yet either. Only accounts with season tickets prior to this year can purchase at this time....or at least that is what I'm being told.
  21. Good. My Nole friends are freaking out. One buddy has 50 friends alone that are looking for tickets. We need to do everything we can to keep as much green and gold in those seats as possible.
  22. If they did a general password through the season ticket holder accounts the Noles will still be all over this, as many that are attending purchased season tickets.
  23. Somebody with a connection in the ticket office needs to call them and implore them not to use a general, generic password for season ticket holders to buy the remaining tickets. They need to send out account specific passwords that limit the number of tickets fans can buy. The Noles fans that bought season tickets are online and waiting to share the general password with other non-season ticket holding Noles fans and they will scoop up the remaining allotment.
  24. A quick UCF synopsis would be nice.. I knew members at the law firm that represented the Plancher family. I really can't divulge more than that. well it's nice to know that either members of the Yerrid Law Firm or Pitisci, Dowell, Markowitz, & Murphy law firm like to share private case information to friends. Well, since you don't know what you are talking about I will enlighten you further. I'm an attorney. We had a meeting and consulted with the Plancher team regarding case strategy and such. No confidences were violated and no bar rules were broken....so take it easy with the accusations.
