  1. They have boosters that have said they will fund up to 5 years of no distributions. SMU quite literally has nothing to lose and everything to gain from a move to the ACC.
  2. I don't see the PAC being viable long term without some more balance. There needs to be 12 to 16 teams and two divisions. That will make scheduling and travel for non-revenue sports much more palatable. PAC West: Stanford, Cal, Oregon St. Wash. St., SDSU, Colorado St. If they go to 14, add Air Force. If they go to 16 add UNLV. PAC East: USF, Tulane, Rice, SMU, Memphis, UTSA. If 14: Tulsa. If 16: Charlotte or ECU An 8 or 10 member PAC would be destined to crumble quickly the next time there is any sort of realignment.

  4. I'm still waiting for an athletic team to go with a true 2 QB set. If both QBs are mobile and athletic, it would really open up a ton of possibilities.
  5. The only report I saw was not great for the offense. Apparently there were 14 drives in total and the offense failed to score on the first 9 drives. Hopefully, this is just an indication that it takes the offense a little longer to click than the defense and not an indication that the talent on the offensive side of the football has dramatically decreased.

  7. Just a heads up that the women's team opens up the regular season tomorrow, 8/17, on the road against a tough LSU squad as the team looks to bounce back from a disappointing 2022 campaign. They looked impressive in their two exhibition matches, trouncing Jacksonville 5-1 and Stetson 3-0. The men's team has one more exhibition against UCF tomorrow after winning their first two easily, 4-1 over Southeastern and 6-1 over UT in the annual Rowdies Cup. They then open the regular season by traveling to play #6 Washington on the road August 24. The men are looking to build off an impressive 2022 campaign that saw them fall in the AAC Championship and make it to the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament.
  8. We won't be getting close to $20 million. If this happens, I can't foresee the number being outside the $10 to $14 million range. Still a marked improvement from what we can expect in the American.
  9. Anything worse than 8-3 would not bode well for conference play. You can't put together this weak of a schedule and not pile up some wins and build momentum. The 2022-2023 team played a fairly weak OOC schedule and managed to go 7-6 (7-1 over their final 8 OOC games). Granted, a lot can change from season-to-season in college basketball, but this year's OOC slate features teams that combined for a 113-219 record last year and an average NET ranking of 270. Last year's schedule had an average NET of 214. Here's to hoping CAAR can win some close games this season and can field a team that finishes at least 17-12 overall (8-3 OOC and 9-9 in AAC play). Getting UTSA and Tulsa twice should help. Win those 4 games and you just have to go 5-9 against the rest of the conference slate to finish .500. The conference away only slate is brutal, with ECU the only one I would expect us to have a chance at winning. Figure 1-3 in those games. I see 2-2 for the Home only games. That would put the team at 7-5. 2-4 against Charlotte, Rice and Temple would result in a .500 finish in conference play. That is absolutely obtainable and my expectations are now set for the season.
  10. Two-thirds voting is referenced three times in that document. Twice as it relates to the Athletic Director Committee (which wouldn't have the authority to dissolve the conference) and once The Board Executive Committee is composed of 6 individuals and they can only vote on things that the Board of Directors could approve on their own by vote of a simple majority. In that instance, it would take 2/3rds of the BEC to approve. I have to imagine that dissolution requires a minimum of 2/3rds of the entire BOD and the BOD is the only body that can vote to dissolve. This document doesn't seem to address that.
  11. I have not found anything definitive. The closest that I came was an article that referenced the old Big East required two-thirds of the members to dissolve. Assuming that is the case, and assuming that WSU and Navy only get half a vote each, it would take at least 10 members to dissolve. I highly doubt the conference can be dissolved with just 8 member votes. It typically requires a super majority of at least 2/3rds if not 3/4ths.
  12. The smarter play is to get a deal in place with 6 teams in the Midwest/East and 2 from the MWC. You will need 12 teams minimum given the inevitability that the conference is going to fail when schools ultimately leave for greener pastures.
  13. I'm not sure I believe the figure, but if it is in fact $15 million per year and we can get in without a GoR or at least one that is less punitive than others, this is a no-brainer. Because I am a USF fan, I am hoping for the best and expecting the worst.

  15. Small sample size, but a 40% strikeout rate is not promising. I am sure if he could focus on baseball year round he would improve. Always good to have options.
  16. I would imagine that they would still be entitled to receive them as they are not intended to be spread out, but the league agreed to it for some reason.
  17. Do we know how a merger would play out? What would happen to the NCAAT units for each conference? I know there has been a lot of movement in college football lately, but I don't think we have yet seen a merger. If USF were to exit the AAC, I imagine that a lot of the exit fee could be covered by the money that they are owed from the entry and exit fees from the latest round of reshuffling.
  18. I'm hearing conflicting reports on this potential nightmare scenario. I'm just hoping the girl was of age and this was all some bad blackmail attempt.
  19. Blue Collar v. Blue Blood. Give me Blue Collar every time!
  20. If this is true, the conference committed malpractice. Of course you take that deal if you were the PAC. If you dare cross the Mouse you are essentially signing your own death certificate.
  21. Well said. I get the feeling CAG is the guy to get us back. The recruiting gains support that. He has a clear vision and is selling that vision. He seems to be who he says he is!
  22. There is nothing from fall camp that I have to base this upon, and he likely starts of the year behind Atkins, but I like the tape I saw Naiem Simmons. We definitely have two consistent slot receivers in Atkins and Simmons. I think Simmons has more big play potential and I hope they find a way to utilize his skill set.
  23. Their only other options are either to join the AAC or poach teams from the AAC to join a new PAC. They can't have any MWC teams until 2025, so they would have to take 4 to 6 teams from the AAC and then 4 to 6 teams from the MWC in 2025 to try and make that work. The issue with that is ESPN and FOX are unlikely to play ball on that deal. They are in the business of consolidation at this point. They essentially froze the PAC 12 out in negotiations and the Apple+ deal was maybe going to be worth $20 million per school, at best, and that was with the full PAC 12 that included valuable properties in Arizona, Washington, Utah, and Oregon. Apple+ is only paying $250 million per year for the MLS and all the programming and teams that brings in. I couldn't see them justifying anywhere near that to get watered down PAC 12 football. I suppose that ESPN could look at it as an opportunity to consolidate. Take the top of the MWC and the top of the AAC and render those conferences worthless moving forward. The issue for USF and the other teams out East would be getting to 8 teams that make sense for travel and division for the non-revenue sports. Memphis, Tulane, USF, SMU....then I suppose Tulsa, Rice, ECU, and maybe UAB. You don't want to end up with 4 teams in Texas, IMO.
