  1. I made an entire post questioning the quality of our WR and noting that there wasn't a playmaker or gamebreaker among them. Brown can and will do better, but he needs time to make a read and get rid of the ball.
  2. We don't suck all around. Clearly have some athletes. We just have a terrible O-Line and our WR aren't very good. Dline needs to play better, but they can. Secondary wasn't terrible considering not much pressure up front.
  3. That about sums it up and was a major concern for me heading into the season. Going to have a lot of 300 yard rushing games.
  4. Can't wait to see the new look defense. Let's get a 3 and out or, even better, a turnover!
  5. ESPN has the content that people are actually willing to pay for. He was referencing regional channels and team specific channels. ESPN is the gold standard. I did read the article.
  6. Owning the rights means they own the content for all intents and purposes. They have their NFL content through 2033 and SEC content (exclusively) through 2034. I would say they are in pretty good shape with two of the biggest prizes in US sports. They will likely only retain a piece of the NBA contract when that is up for renegotiations, but that is all part of getting leaner and more strategic in their approach.
  7. Those 25 million aren't going anywhere even if ESPN was $30 a month as a standalone. If they didn't gain a single subscriber (which I doubt would be the case given the immense amount of content that they carry) they would generate $9 billion annually. They are going to reach the point soon where the carriage fees are a wash with what they can garner with direct streaming. The option to package Flagship with Disney+ and Hulu Live still exists (they will have to buy NBC out of Hulu by the beginning of 2025 anyways). The point being, ESPN is going to be fine in the immediate future. Here is an interesting read on the subject: It’s About to Get Incredibly Expensive to Watch Sports NYMAG.COM Cable TV was the worst way to follow your favorite team, except for every other way.
  8. If ESPN content is only available directly through ESPN (or one of their partners) they will not struggle getting subscribers. Also, the partnership with Penn Gaming to create ESPNBet is going to drive things for them as well. ESPN has been cutting the fat and diversifying. Bob Iger has them moving in the right direction for a partnership/selloff.
  9. ESPN already has. The have seen the cable money drop. They already have 25 million ESPN+ subscribers. They won't be as profitable as they once were, but they aren't going anywhere.
  10. Not if they tier their content they won't. First, I fully expect that Disney/ESPN will have partnered with a tech giant by 2025 before they are offering a standalone package. People are willing to pay $500 for a season of the NFL Sunday Ticket, I can certainly see SEC fans willing to pay $300 a year for access to all SEC programming. Soon, they won't have a choice. ESPN+ is already at 25 million subscribers. They just need a strategic partnership and they will be fine. They have cut a lot of fat already.
  11. It's called a hedge. You will really be kicking yourself when USF goes 13-0 and Alabama gets a rematch in the semifinal of the CFP. Just imagine the cost of tickets for 2024 when that happens! Get ahead of the curve.
  12. The stock doesn't change the fact that they have the contracts for the content and content is king. Disney is doing a stress test with the cable providers. If Charter/Spectrum continue to hold out, I expect Disney to drive consumers to their Hulu+ offering. I have Spectrum out of They will be offering a standalone ESPN streaming service by 2025. They will have spun off ESPN or partnered with other media companies by that time as well. The stock is currently down because Disney was likely cooking the books on the Disney+ streaming losses they were sustaining.
  13. You are out of your mind yet again. Content is king and Spectrum/Charter is about to find that out the hard way. I am giving them until Monday to get this sorted out. If not, I am canceling my cable and going with Youtube TV or Hulu Live. I don't care about who delivers my content, I care about having my content.
  14. It's a genius move no matter what. The cost to the university is $0 if wealthy oil tycoons are footing the bill. The reality is it only costs the donors $56 million, plus the buyout, as that is all they would have likely made in that timeframe in the watered down AAC.
  15. Yep. We could have tolerated that Rutgers game being stolen from us by the refs and Schiano (and possibly ESPN/BCS) and still had a truly memorable and meaningful season.
  16. Have you seen our conference schedule? We are going to be lucky to have 1 or 2 games per season against top 25 competition.
  17. 7 weeks...there was a bye week in there. I was including the Rutgers game in my count. Even after that, we still had a good chance to win the conference and play in a meaningful NYE bowl.
  18. That isn't it at all. I understand fully how lucky we were in 2003. It is the tremendous failure of leadership and a lack of vision that has led us to where we are. We squandered a lucky break. To me that is worse than never having a lucky break to squander. We have been passed by a program to the East that we dominated. We had lapped them. Then we decided to take a nap on the side of the road like the hare and the tortoise passed us by.
  19. Attendance is not that bad is not growth. Also, it wasn't that hard to find people wearing USF gear in the late aughts. The IPF was too little, too late. USF was mentioned WAY more in the media prior to the last 5 years. Aside from the massive POTENTIAL debt from an OCS, you haven't identified a single objective way that USF has grown. I don't need any more subjective thoughts on this subject. I wish I was as blissfully ignorant to the plight of our program as some of you are. I was once one of the more positive voices on this forum, but the Universe has won. I accept our fate as an also-ran. We will always have the first 9 weeks of 2007. What a magical time that was. *Sigh*
