  1. Duke finished 7-5 (4-4) this year. That's the epitome of mediocre. we finished 4-3 in conference in 2007. 2017 we essentially moved down in conference. not up. Like I said I think we can compete if we move up to an acc that loses it's top teams or if we move into the big 12 that is a shell of it's former self. they've already lost all the quality programs.
  2. I guess Vandy has missed on every hire since 1933....there are plenty of programs in every conference that never sniff a conference title.
  3. I think we could compete in the acc if the big boys leave. I'm not saying we shouldn't move up. Like I said most teams become mediocre though. tcu is an exception even though they are 59-49 in big 12 play since joining. so is va tech Louisville is 44-38 in acc since joining. they played in sugar bowl and orange bowl while in big east. 0 acc conference championships Pitt is 50-40 finished 3-9 this year 1 acc conference championship rutgers is 16-72 including 3 seasons where they didn't win a single conference game. 0 conference championships wvu is 53-54. used to finish top 5 and play bcs bowls in big east 0 conference championships miami is 89-72 0 conference championships
  4. not to mention, they were invited awhile ago. they've been pitching the big 12 to recruits for years.
  5. personally I'd rather be at the top. leads to better bowls and playoff appearances. can always schedule tougher ooc. FSU would be stupid to go to SEC. they would never sniff the same success they can have in acc.
  6. Walker had plenty of touches. the one basket he had was from the high post. He caught the ball there plenty in the first half. they tried pick and rolls as well.what he does with it is up to him. they tried to get it down low early in the 2nd. he was bullied out of position. players make their own opportunities.
  7. seems like a coincidence that all 3 were in "transition" . I guess WVU has been in transition for the past 12 years....used to play BCS bowl games and finished ranked in top 10 regularly while in BE now they finish 7-6 on average every year. 53-54 big 12 record since joining. Fact is most teams that move up will become mediocre. just like Miami when they left the BE. went from winning national championships to never playing in acc champ game. last year UCF 9-5 Cincy 9-4 Houston 8-5
  8. Nice start to the Golesh era. really like his mindset and attitude. looking forward to the future.
  9. watch the 2nd half where they tried to get the ball to walker in the low post. he was pushed off the blocks by a guy that is 2" taller and 5 pounds heavier. they had no problem scoring in the paint against us with great ball movement and players moving well without the ball. they didn't have to post up to do it. they got layup after layup. BTW we outscored them in the paint 38-32.
  10. BTW our 6'8" post player wasn't going to be effective against their 6'10" post defender.
  11. now all we need is a 7'1" russian who is adept at the pick and roll. a rim runner FAU shot 26 threes per game last year
  12. they tried to go to walker in the post plenty against maine. it was not effective at all. rewatch the game. Not sure if he is using kobe's minutes to lure his brother but that family is like the ball family where the dad needs complete control of the situation. the dad has been on the TC bench for years and was the defacto head coach that made sure his kids were the focus.
  13. Leavitt lost his players. they turned on him. Unfortunately the administration had to do what they did especially with the mangino and leach situations at the time. I hate that he is now an attention seeker. trying to troll usf at every opportunity.
  14. Not exactly true. UCF is getting close to $90m for upgrades from county tourist taxes. maybe it's because they host a bowl there. Millions in tourist tax dollars funding to go toward county expansion MYNEWS13.COM Several projects were presented Tuesday.
  15. I'm not sure what you mean. it's like Taggart running a prostyle offense without quality linemen or running a spread. there is a reason why smaller programs started running the spread offense in football and it was because they couldn't get quality offensive linemen. same reason a school like ours should run a basketball offense that uses the type of players available to us.
  16. again we shot 31 free throws. here is a quote from the dreaded st pete times Their only sign of proficiency occurred at the free-throw line, which they reached frequently via dribble penetration and hit 26 of 31 attempts. that's what teams do that play a 5 out. attack the rim and take high percentage shots or go to the line. going to the line is the most efficient way to score. I'm all about having a big athletic guy that can run to the rim on a pick and roll. it's rare to find quality big men that can be effective in the paint though. how well did tchewa do for us last year against a much smaller stetson? that's a guy that played at texas tech and now georgia so he is a "quality" big man. Not sure we can get much better than that. I think a good coach will run a system that fits the style of player a school can realistically get. If we were kansas or gonzaga that can get legit bigs that can be effective in the paint then by all means do it. and if somehow our coach comes across one then yeah I'm all for it but don't force it just because that's the system you run. big men that can only play with their backs to the basket clog the paint and slow an offense down.
  17. so if attacking the rim and shooting 3's is most important on offense then protecting the rim and defending the 3 are most important on defense. rim protection is what those two brought. they were both very good defenders in the paint. Not saying there isn't a need for that or rebounding even. Just don't think playing with a big in the post on offense is crucial to success. ideally we have perimeter players who can hit the 3 and attack the rim with an athletic "big" who can defend the rim and be a rim runner on offense.
  18. like I said, we shot 31 free throws. did a gregory team ever shoot 31 free throws in a game? that's attacking the basket, drawing fouls, and looking for layups. you don't need to post anyone up to get high percentage shots. attacking the rim and shooting 3's is the best way for a school like ours to win. the best players in our history were guards who could shoot and/or penetrate. I like how this looks so far. I like his philosophy.
  19. crazy to think, as bad as our shooting and as good as theirs was, we still had a chance. you're right. the back court and two missed free throws at the end sealed it.
  20. ask houston how they play or FAU or San diego state it's very rare to find dominant big men. even then , like purdue, they aren't the best way to win at basketball. nobody is looking for post players. not even the nba. they want big men who can shoot 3's and protect the rim.
  21. LOL yeah we should just get the quality big men like gonzaga.... too bad we couldn't get that michigan kid that went to kansas.
  22. Thank god we don't play with a traditional post. that's like running a 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense in football. perhaps you missed the 31 free throws we shot. many on drawing fouls when penetrating. that doesn't happen with a big man clogging the lane. I love this guy's philosophy regardless of what happens this year. you attack the rim and shoot 3's. P.S. I'm willing to bet we shoot better than 6% for the year from 3
  23. it happens even to the best of them. why hasn't there been more talk about 26 of 31 from the line? dribble penetration was excellent the way to win in today's game is to attack the basket (drawing fouls is the most efficient way to score and when you shoot 80% from the line that equals 1.6 points per possession. that's like shooting 50%+ from 3) and shooting 3's. Attack the rim and shoot 3's. I couldn't be happier that we are running an offense like this now.
  24. Only want people to understand it was an off night for shooting and nothing else. it happens. In fact if you said team A shot 53% from 3 and team B shot 6% you would think team B got blown out. that wasn't the case.
