  1. flip the shooting percentages for 3's and we win by like 40. if we both had an average shooting night(33% from 3) we win by almost 20. just so happens they were hot and we were the exact opposite. it happens. people just don't understand the variance that comes with shooting. especially 3's
  2. that's exactly what it was. can't imagine there will be many nights where we shoot 6% from 3. can't imagine there will be many nights where our opponent shoots over 50% from 3. even with that we were still in it with a minute left. kind of sad that people are embarrassed or that they make this out to be anything other than an off night.
  3. They shot 53% from 3. we shot 6%. even with that, if we hit the 2 free throws at the end, we're down by 3 with a minute left. it was on off shooting night. happens to the best teams. anybody who thinks it was more than that doesn't know basketball.
  4. modern basketball coaches realize using a traditional post player only clogs the lane and stifles an offense. there is a reason why teams like purdue with a dominant post player get knocked out of the ncaa tourney early while teams like fau, houston, san diego state make deep runs. it's also why the nba doesn't want zach edey
  5. 3 and D. modern basketball. shoot 3's and run to the rim (high percentage 2's). defend 3's and defend the rim.
  6. yea I think it's a different game now. protect the rim and knock down 3's. I'm excited to see the new style.
  7. 3 and D is the name of the game now. if we can do both better than we should see more success. look at FAU's roster. It's built on shooters. 37% from 3 and 72% from line 28th in team defensive efficiency
  8. they put out plenty of good articles too. don't always agree with everything but I don't always agree with my wife either.
  9. absolutely. I understand wanting more specialized coverage. honestly gousfbulls has a lot of great stuff. I get the local paper to keep up with a broad overview of what's happening around town. not necessarily for the bulls coverage. I just don't get why so many people complain about it. It's not in-depth bulls coverage but they do have some good stuff. I don't agree with everything but that's ok.
  10. honestly all those issues have to do less with us and more to do with the industry. Newspapers are going the way of the dinosaur. It's unfortunate but that's the reality. They are cutting costs everywhere just to try and survive. Just wait until they use AI to "write" their articles.
  11. They write about the noles and gators because there is more demand for them in our market. blame that on our fans. not them. they wrote the FAU angle because we were playing them that week and the AAC has that game as one of 6 that will occur every year. the aac is trying to make it a rivalry. maybe if all the bulls fans hadn't cancelled their subscriptions they would write about us. there is nothing wrong with asking if a $350m stadium is worth it. they question whether it is worth it for the rays as well. I can form my own opinion about it but it's nice for people to ask the questions so that I can be better informed.
  12. right. because that's what they do..... an article about why a local 5 star might choose us but is 10 days too late, according to some, is spitting in your face. or was it the article from baker about how we can have similar success in football as memphis has had. I guess that's setting your lawn on fire.
  13. I don't always agree with their point of view but it's a dying industry. I'm glad we get any coverage at all. What I find ironic is that there are people on here who complain about their coverage that don't even pay for a subscription. That's like complaining about the job a guy does that cuts your lawn for free.
  14. Considering how many on here complain about their coverage and claim they cancelled long ago, why should they consider our coverage a priority? With as bad as the industry is, I'm just glad we have a local newspaper at all. Do you have a paid subscription?
  15. don't understand all the times hate. obviously neither of you read the article. Knight gave a lot of reasons for why he might pick us. Also maybe he took the time to get quotes from his father. if you want instant news then follow twitter.
  16. 4th down percentage isn't all that meaningful by itself. different distances have different odds of success. for instance we went for a 4th and 16 against Bama and a 4th and 15 against FAU when down 42-14 and a 4th and 19 when down 49-14 and a 4th and 16 when down 56-14
  17. Math? yes that's a good thing. we lead the country in 4th down conversions. here is a basic chart that shows when he might decide to go for it. don't be surprised when people come on here and criticize a decision to go for it if it's unsuccessful. Doesn't mean it wasn't the right call according to the math.
  18. perhaps sports illustrated then....maybe Forbes....the new yorker...... yeah that voodoo math. who believes in that stuff anyway. si.com WWW.SI.COM Go For It: Innovation Advice From The Football Coach Who Never Punts WWW.FORBES.COM Football coach Kevin Kelly has been recognized by USA Today, Time, and more for his innovative style that relies on data analytics and defies conventional wisdom. Coach... The Case Against Punting | The New Yorker WWW.NEWYORKER.COM
  19. perhaps you should have read further. from the article Kelley's math is backed up by other like-minded football progressives, including Cal professor David Romer — who did a study that found that teams, generally, shouldn't punt.
  20. here is a simplified explanation. go for it on your own 5 yard line. 50% success rate. if you fail they have a 92% chance to score. that's .92 x .50 x 7 = that's 3.22 points per possession. punt from own 5 yard line. gain 35 yards on average in field position decreases their chance to score to 77%. that's .77 x 1.00 (100% chance they get the ball) x 7 = 5.39 points per possession. the math says it's better to go for it. The Country's Most Radical Football Coach Explains Why You Should Never Punt WWW.BUSINESSINSIDER.COM
  21. smart coaches are beginning to realize that maintaining possession is more important than field position. gives you a better chance at wins. most people are risk averse. not surprising that most people would disagree with going for it.
  22. GW converts at a 60% rate. they are 6-9 on FGs. going for the win then against a ranked opponent was the smart decision.
