  1. nah give me a risk taker as a coach any day of the week. there will always be a reason not to trust the math. charlie strong would punt from the opponents 35.......
  2. agree. no shame at all. we just need to have the structure in place to continue success if a coach gets hired away. one suggestion- don't hire a washed up defensive dinosaur of a coach to replace a successful offensive minded young coach.
  3. let's see how little pressure he has at ucf when he has a losing record this year. Gary Patterson was fired from tcu. he was there 20+ years and had won big time bowl games including the rose bowl and multiple conference championships.
  4. so you don't believe in analytics. you trust your gut. you absolutely should follow the math. if it increases your chance for success then you do it. of course that doesn't mean it will always work out.
  5. so you don't believe in analytics?
  6. Not sure the 4th down bot is going to tell you to punch a bear in the face but it will tell you to go for it on your own 30 in the 1st quarter on 4th and 1 when down by 7. Just listen to the analytics. Most people think too conservatively. Fourth Down Decision Calculator RBSDM.COM
  7. not apples to apples but NFL 4th down bot says to go for it on 4th and 1 from your own 30 in the first quarter when down by 7. Fourth Down Decision Calculator RBSDM.COM
  8. Listen I think this is a good job but many of our fans think it's a destination job. It's not. Most of these guys want to compete at the top. Of course it would make more sense to stay here over a mid-level p4 job but if a top 25 job comes along I wouldn't be surprised if he left.
  9. with that mindset, why would Taggart ever leave his cush job at WKU? His alma mater. Might as well stay a position coach or coordinator. why take the risk of being a HC Plenty of people are happy working in a cubicle their entire lives. Some people want to run the biggest and best companies they can. They tend to be risk takers. Extremely competitive.
  10. Tenn coach makes $9m per year. he could get a guaranteed 5 year contract ($45m)that could set his family up for life and then walk into a truly stress free tv gig like many of the failures do. Not sure what you make but doubling 100's of thousands to make a move is far different than tripling multiple millions
  11. ND played 4 away games against acc opponents this year. all tv money from those games go to the conference.
  12. clearly they didn't care about geography. they cared more about the schools they would be associated with. sorry but they wouldn't have joined the big 12 unless they had no other alternative.to suggest otherwise is foolish. the acc is worlds better in academics and athletics.
  13. they are required to play 4 acc games every year. they played 6 this year I stand corrected. 5
  14. yes they are. may only be half but still a member they are playing 6 acc teams this year (7 if you include stanford)
  15. the big 12 didn't pass on them. they wanted nothing to do with the big 12. could you imagine stanford begging to join the likes of ucf, kansas state, texas tech over duke, unc, notre dame, etc?? completely laughable.
  16. the acc will be fine. even if they lose their top 4 or so teams, they are still better than big 16. not sure why people think they are some power conference that acc teams will fall all over themselves to join.
  17. The freshman from Jesuit? Hopefully CAG locks down the bay
  18. you really need to get over the Leavitt thing. it's over. time to move on.
  19. you didn't go? aren't you the one who says that our opponent is who people come to see? You are dead wrong. Losing is far worse than winning no matter who you play.
  20. great call to go for it both times. you can second guess the plays but absolutely love that he goes for it. simple math says to go in those situations. gives you a better chance to win. just because they didn't work out doesnt mean it wasn't the right thing to do.
  21. nah coaches are way too conservative. math says you should go for it more often than not. thank god he is no charlie strong or skip holtz with his ultra conservative decision making.
  22. it depends how much those next 10k are willing and able to pay. won't be cost effective at $100/season.
  23. as a ticket paying fan why would I care about the networks? Oh and as a fan who watches on tv I pay through cable fees etc. I don't really get upset about it but I am becoming less and less interested in watching a game in person or on tv. Ask the MLB why they are trying to shorten games. It's because people are losing interest. they'd rather change their sacred rules than actually find a way to have less commercials. I guess abner should have realized the games would be hours longer once tv got involved.
  24. I thought that's what paying for tickets was for. personally I wish they would just scroll advertisements. Sure at the end of the quarter or during halftime go at it but don't stop the game for commercials.
