  1. Gregory was OC from 2001-2003. 2001: 18.0 ppg. 240 rushing ypg, 74.5 passing ypg. (24.38ppg in conference) 2002: 24.9 ppg. 239 rushing ypg, 87.4 passing ypg. (30.13ppg in conference) 2003: 21.9 ppg. 183 rushing ypg, 154 passing ypg. (24ppg in conference)
  2. Sounds like excuses to me. Players obviously weren't good enough to beat woeful Buffalo and started the blame game... It's the same group of players whom under the previous OC scored 44 points against the Bulls. The same Buffalo that had lost 12 straight until beating us. And they shut us out. I am inclined to trust their judgment, particularly the ones who played under Grobe initially then made the conversion to the Knorr regime (Knorr had very little if anything to do with the offense during his tenure here). I'm just saying that any optimism should be very guarded. The overall opinion from former players is great loads of sympathy for all of us here at USF. That's something!
  3. Direct quote from our starting fullback during Gregory's tenure: that said, gregory definitely needed to go. i remember the buffalo game at buffalo (where we got pummeled) and their linebackers calling our exact plays and pointing out where we were going. there's nothing like running mid-line option as a fullback when the defense knows where you're going.
  4. You guys are awfully optimistic. People on my end of things are making comments like "Eh, they could have been contenders" and "They're partying in Louisville and Morgantown tonight." And that's from guys who **played** for Gregory.
  5. I wouldn't say the 110 is Big 10 style... I'd say we're more SWAC style. Most of the comments I heard from USM fans at the GMAC bowl were along the lines of "I've never seen white kids move like that." But the UCF routine done a few years ago wasn't the same routine as was ever done in Athens, it was the "road show" which is kind of a "greatest hits" routine they do at out-of-state away games. UCF's band is certainly good but I am amused at anyone who thinks they "schooled" the 110. The 110 actually has been known to "school" opponents; see the GMAC when they adlibbed-back Beyonce right after the Pride of Mississippi gave it their shot. Look, band smack is really lame, I just want my alma mater USF to project the best image to our opponents. Like it or not, the HOT is a public face of the quality of our university, and flip folders make us look like amateurs. Just like we expect the quality of our sports to improve upon joining the Big East, our peripherals should as well. I think the Sundolls have been fantastic at rising to the challenge; I hope the HOT can do the same.
  6. The OSU band is horrible. Did anyone see them perform at the BCS Championship? They're embarassing. Not only are they not the best band in the land, they're not even the best band in the state of Ohio. That having been said, you'll never see them on the field with flips. EVER. Their crappy pep band has been sighted with flips at hockey games on occasion. The Ohio Marching 110, on the other hand, is a non-music band in all performances and locations. That's been the policy in Athens since the 70's at the very least, back when they were the "110 Marching Men of Ohio." Even alumni aren't allowed to use music on band day -- you're expected to know your music and tech when you show up on campus.
  7. Well, thats either an ignorent or a hateful question. That does not take money, that takes a lot of extra work on the members part. Most bands will ALWAYS have flip folders, including the top military bands in the country. Wrong. People actually research these things, believe it or not, and only 35% of college bands use flip folders. Most of them are at the Division II or below level. (Visit http://www.ucband.uc.edu/kappakappapsi/compendium/ for all sorts of fascinating information about college bands.) I am not aware of more than a handful of Division I marching band that uses flip folders. I'm sure there are some, but they're likely schools like Troy or something. Rutgers and WVU use flip folders when not inside the stadium-- but do we really want to emulate those guys? No one I've seen in the MAC uses them, though Ball State's band might want to consider it -- they could use the help. Rice uses them, but that's because the M.O.B. is a scatter band open to the public that's far more about onfield antics than being good musicians. I watched nearly every bowl game, watching the band to see if I could verify my suspicions, and while not every school's band got enough face time for me to be 100% positive, I sure know I never saw any flip folders for any other team. I love this university, I love our band, but we gotta get rid of the flip folders. Do a few google searches. Other message boards openly mock us. I never played in a band in my life, I just happened to attend a few schools with top-level marching bands, and I'm proud of them, and I'd like to be proud of USF's too.
  8. How much do I have to donate for them to get rid of flip folders?
  9. Not a bad idea. This was another great thing the Liberals brought us. Hey, idiot, Title IX was signed into law by a Republican -- **** Nixon. I'm hoping Bulliever was being sarcastic, because if he wasn't, I'm embarassed for this entire forum by your comments. The rest of the Big East already mocks our academics, you don't have to give them more fodder by openly making stupid comments. Archie Bunker was a parody, not a role model.
  10. Look for the game to be moved to Dolphins Stadium and tied in with a major national musical act performance postgame.
  11. I don't think USF can shed being a commuter school without some vast changes in campus culture. The fact that so many of our students are nontraditional in nature is the primary aspect of this -- compared to a residential campus like Ohio, Kansas, Penn State, Notre Dame, or Duke, nearly everything about attending college here is different. The entire act of being a college student is different at a UC or USF or the like. If they want to go in that direction, I applaud them, but it will necessitate a great increase in tuition and other charges to handle the growth of on-campus students. I do, however, wonder why we have to have such nice dorms. I guess that's part of the demand curve? The kids have it amazingly luxurious here compared to anywhere else I've taught (residential campuses)...
  12. It would have been a bit nicer had they not been on flip folders. That looked kind of ridiculous on TV.
  13. Papa John's and other pizza chains currently don't deliver to the Smithfield community that surrounds the stadium, partly due to safety concerns. For some reason I find this hilarious. Is this standard pizza business practice?
  14. Anyone know what his academic status is? What's his major? Five years in, he probably already graduated, maybe Fall Semester?
  15. Just exactly what does it mean to be a man anyway? Well for one thing, there's always not asking questions like that... ;D "That and a pair of testicles."
  16. Basketball is the #1 sport at both those schools. If we went I-AA/eliminated football we'd have a whole hell of a lot more money to spend on basketball, too. As is we run a basketball operation on the cheap.
  17. I think the last time Florida State was in the Final Four was the early 70's (1972?) when they lost in the championship game. They made it to the Elite Eight in 1994 and the Sweet Sixteen in 1993.
  18. The Sun Dome is managed by a company created by the university to insulate them from future liability. Thus, to say the Sun Dome is "independent" is a true statement in its nature but not in practice. The university put in place all the individuals who make every decision regarding the facility. It's kind of like the Commissioner of Major League Baseball. He can make any decision he wants, by definition, but as he is appointed (and can be removed) by the joint owners he really stands to act at their behest. Budweiser being a sponsor has zero effect on beer sales. "Budweiser is a proud supporter of Ohio Bobcat athletics" yet you will not see alcohol served at an OU basketball or football game, most likely, ever.
  19. Would be correct. He's a Washington, DC junior in high school interning for Ourlads.
  20. Honestly, last year, a lot of my students seemed to be going to the games. This year, I know of only one student who has gone to a game, despite my constant hyping of the team. They just don't care. They live at home, have jobs, have wives or husbands, and don't seem to care. I don't know what else to do to encourage students to come to the games. I really don't.
  21. Tickets are only $30? Wow. I just coughed up $45 for the GMAC Bowl. :-/
  22. It's a joke. Perhaps a bit too cerebral a joke for generally dense Floridians, but a joke. I laughed.
  23. "OSU academics are like UF" Ahhh, ahaha, aha, ha, ha. UF's undergraduate academics are on par with Michigan and Cal among the top public universities. OSU has excellent graduate programs, the best in the nation in many areas. Their undergraduate caliber is, and has always been, questionable. Miami and Ohio are the academic (public) schools in Ohio. Ohio State is like Florida State.
  24. very tru... tho i am not a usf fan, i do attend the school and like creeping around on message baords... my apologies for being off on the number of games weve had ovr 40 thou.. Altho i do not come here to trash usf at all... I just saw a broad topic and decided to put forth my opinion... And i no u gusy think im gonan sya Ohio is the best.. I do think the midwest passion is unmatched from any state...But i feel its texas, not only do they have passion but they have the athletes... Those big 3 texas schools r always sold out and rockin... and i didnt say nobody goes here as there first choice... My quote was "outside of medical students, i have met very few people who came to usf as there first choice".... My statemtn there was not attempting to down USF, someone said "thats y our student fan base sucks(i didnt say that soem other dude did)"... The i said no this is why... its a pretty accurate theory as to why u see so many other team colors around the school.. It may b an unfortunate theory but it is tru.. And again i dont want people saying i should get banned and stuff cause i am not here bashing u... I was actually dissapointed USF didnt go to a better bowl, even with a win agaisnt ecu i doubt they will get the resepct... but anyway thats it.. good luck to u guys in the bowl Are you drunk? I can barely read this. As for comparing Ohio and Florida as football states, there's really no comparison. The nature of the universities in each state is so different, it's just... different. Ohio was founded in 1804. Miami was founded in 1809. Ohio State didn't come around until the 1870's, and even then it was Ohio A&M. Ohio, Miami, and the later schools of BGSU and Kent State (Toledo was a private school the state absorbed, and Akron and Cincinnati are kind of crappy schools) were the academic schools of the state, while OSU was the vocational one. (Hence the A & M part.) OSU later got a president whom was close with the governor and shifted nearly all the state's higher education funding to Columbus. That's why OSU has 60,000 students and everyone else (UC excepted, if it helps you to think of UC as a USF clone then that would work) is in the 20,000 range. That's a bit of an oversimplification, as Kent has 30,000 students and Miami has 16,000... but you get the point. Schools in Ohio are also located in rural areas, not cities. Athens, Oxford, and Bowling Green all have populations roughly equivalent to the student population (20,000 or so). There are no Division I-A programs in Florida located in far-off, unpopulated areas. It's not easy to attract fans in these rural areas, first and foremost because they are poor (particularly in Appalachia, where Ohio is located) and second because NOBODY LIVES THERE. And then you have jokers like this USFBuckeye dude who cheer for Ohio State even though they don't go there, which I find laughable and pathetic. If you want to cheer for Ohio State, though I cannot fathom any reason one might want to, GO TO THAT UNIVERSITY. It's not like it's hard to get into or anything.
  25. "A playoff would make the regular season meaningless" the anti-playoff crowd says. Yet it's the same among you who are arguing for a Michigan rematch, which of course renders the regular season meaningless (forcing OSU to beat Michigan twice, while Michigan only has to beat them once). That is ludicrous, and thus it is what I am hoping for, to break the BCS once and for all. Alas, I think the voters will do the "right" thing, and make Florida #2, and Florida will get utterly and totally annihiliated by OSU and I will have to listen to idiot Buckeye fans talk about how great their team is for another year. Not that Gator fans are any better, in fact, the whole situation makes me sick to my stomach, but if it at the very least exposes the SEC for being the most overrated entitity in any sports affiliation since Kolopos of Marathon came into the games of the 99th ancient Olympiad, then at least there's some positive that can come from it. Do not overrate the SEC. Voters consistently overrate the SEC because there are more of them from the SEC than anywhere else. The only reason people THINK the SEC is so good is because of these ratings. Go ahead and look at Sagarin's predictor numbers for the SEC (the ones the BCS doesn't use because they're actually, you know, ACCURATE AT PREDICTING GAMES) and you'll see the SEC the way they really ought to be seen.
