  1. I think the play calling tonight was great. In the past we used to sit there and call out the plays..so predictable. Tonight, offense and grothe and even the running game kept us all off balance, not to mention the huskies' defense. congrats to everyone. great game. great win.
  2. P.S. Defense played great tonight. The team is improving. I think we can take NC on the road, but only with Grothe legs.
  3. let's face it. grothe is job security right now for OC and everyone else..
  4. Talking about PJ.....Why on earth put Julmist in as clean up QB? What is CJL thinking? Put in a freshman. Get them some free reps. Don't understand this man's thinking.
  5. I think, in the case of USF, the "commuter" label, image or perception, whatever you or "they" want to call it is really more of a mind set. Unfortunately, it is the mind set of many current and even more former students/graduates. The mind set goes like this. I am a FLorida resident (young or old) and attend and/or attended/graduated USF because it was close by and I could work and/or live nearby in the greater metropolitan commiunity known as Tampa Bay. Former students/grads don't have any particular allegiance to USF or USF sports because the mind set of a school of convenience "where I got my degree." I'm sure every school has their part-time night school students. I think USF was built upon that concept because it was convenient and there was such a great population base. Solutions: You can't make people like and support their school if it's a school of convenience. It is going to take time for USF current and former students/graduates to shake that image/perception and begin taking steps to support their school and sports teams. On this board we all do that to one degree or another. It is going to take years of growing USF fans just from the ranks of current and former USF students. I think the Alumni club and Bulls Club really need to work on this perception with current students first.
  6. E.T. Getting back to my criticism of USF's marketing efforts.. I don't have any specifics on how to improve and have a successfull marketing plan. apparently nobody does. that's up to the people(employees) at USF. I'm a consumer/donor/fan. That's my job (for the past 10 years in football and 5 in Basketball). the fact USf is lacking in marketing donors/consumers/fans is not something i have an answer for. i can tell you there are more year round entertainment choices in the tampa bay area than most places in the usa, which makes marketing extremely difficult for football and basketball. we need some pretty serious efforts in marketing. are we (usf) up to the task? do we (usf) even understand the difficulty of the task?have we (usf)hired the right people from the AD down to meet that challenge?
  7. I don't have anything against UCF success. I'm in favor of a strong USF and UCF rivalry especially when they did so well last season and this year we went into their cesspool of a stadium and cleaned up. Have a nice season UCF and see ya next year!!!
  8. Where do I start? How about the entire US business economy (other than Government spending) is based upon the successful marketing of products and services. I'm not talking about marketing gimmicks. I'm talking about a marketing strategy that has measurable goals related to fundraising and donor raising in the community and then the horsepower to attain these goals and create momentum. If these goals are not met you get new marketing people. We as fans aren't privy to these professional marketing programs. We just see the results. There are no results as far I can see.
  9. One would like to think we could expect an at-large bid to a non-BigEast Bowl if we get passed over with a decent record. But, I think that's very remote. Look at the economics. Those spots would, in my estimation, go to better known teams who would either "travel" well or attract a sizeable Tv audience, or both. The Meineke Bowl was a great time last year-that's what I'm hoping for.
  10. i don't think the new Int'l Bowl will be high on the pecking ("picking") order. NE schools like Pit & Srycuse "travel" and the last thing they want is a northern bowl.
  11. that's right. but, UConn? give me a break. we can take them w/o a running game. we have our one-man offensive show grothe and hopefully our defense will come together and shut 'em down. grothe is good for 21 against UnConn...
  12. USF Bulls win! 21-16 Bulls 389 yards A. Hill This is a come from behind victory (as usual).
  13. there's a lot of football between now and then. fortunatley,we control our own destiny at this point. if we beat UConn that's the first step. need 2 or 3 more wins and the bowls will have a hard time ignoring us. i still think we're looking at the "new" bowl in Toronto due to our relative inexperience and travel history.
  14. What are we looking for on this board? This isn't a just a board for "cheerleading". It's a discussion board. And what are we discussing? Hopefully, the ups and downs of USFsports, mainly football. Smazza simply focuses on some of the more glaring (oftentimes unaddresssed by the powers that be) issues and wants others to see these problems which hold us back as a successful NCAA sports program. I say the board is much better with Smazza and others than without. We don't want a boring board do we?
  15. So what else is new? That's been the story all season. Grothe winning on his own...despite our coaching (discipline/penalties on the field and play calling..all coaching failures).. get used to it..I am.
  16. I would have to agree.  :-X Let's see we have 3 wins so far. We need at least 3 more for bowl eligibilty, 4 if we want to be in a good position for a bowl and 5 if we want to be guaranteed a bowl. Yeah.. I'd say UConn and Cincy and North Carolina and Syracuse are must wins. The rest of the games....?
  17. E.T. it's a good topic. Where we play in the future is going to determine, to a large extent, how our fan base grows.. BTW have you been following the news in Lakeland?
  18. Cry baby Bulls fans? One thing is for certain. The closer we get to kick-off all of us Bulls are going to see Red. And you know what Bulls do when they see Red. Rutgers knows what we did to Louisille last year. We're they a Red team too?
  19. USF taking over the RayJay as it's own stadium on Dale mabry would not, IMO, change anything attendance or momentum wise. It's too large to fill and too far from campus..Inevitably, real growth and momentum would follow if USF had a nice stadium on campus. Watch and see what happens w/ UCF. Texas comes in for the inaugural game in 2007. It's a smaller stadium than the "dump" they play in now. Lesser supply= higher demand and therefore value.
  20. When you're a no-name..let me rephrase. When you are an up and coming, relatively new, player in the NCAA game, this type of publicity is money well spent. Way to go Judy and Doug. These other school we compete with are decades ahead of us.
