  1. While I'm not happy with Kelly and was not a fan of this hire; I will give it a few years to see if it can work out before calling for Kelly to go. There is no reason that coach Golesh in the end can't be a good hire. The advantages or disadvantages of the nil and transfer portal will all be the same for the teams in the AAC. It can't be an excuse if we don't win in the AAC.
  2. The only positives last year was our offense and special teams. Disappointing what is occurring . Losing our 2 main receivers ( Horn, Weaver) star running back ( Batie) and return man, Kicker, OL, OC, and special teams coordinator,... When new coaches come in you expect lots of changes, but having to start again from scratch on offense ( except at this time QB) when that was our strength it is not what I had hoped for. Coach Golesh needs to hit the portal hard, or this year could be another train wreck. We cant afford losing another 2 years.
  3. Well I believe that you can bring in transfer portal players until after Spring training ( Bohanon example last year). Am I correct about that? If so that is still plenty of time. Still a lot of highly rated players in the transfer portal to be had.
  4. Yes, that was my worry about not going with a big name experienced coach who could come in right away without training wheels. Its all about having the right connections. However, I haven't looked specifically at how Herman at FAU or the Liberty coach ( cant think of his name right now) are doing with recruiting. Although, I will wait to see if Golesh can save this class with bringing adequate replacements for what we are losing. Still a lot of recruiting to be done this year and for next year. But Golesh needs to hit transfer portal hard, or this year will be another disaster. Cant say that I feel reassured right now.
  5. I am all for adding him to the team. He had 261 yards rushing last year (per espn). However if we lose Battie, I am counting on another RB to come in perhaps with a better resume. Perhaps someone in the mold of a Bohanon ; someone who has proven it on the highest level. Golesh has a lot of work ahead of him over the next coming weeks.
  6. I agree and this terrible week should not affect whether Coach Golesh is successful or not. All AAC teams are in the same boat when it comes to the transfer portal and the NIL, so if Coach Golesh is a good coach he will find a way to built a team and win. But it is worrying that he cant sell the future of the USF program to our current players.
  7. Recruiting now is as much about getting new players out of high school, or the transfer portal as it is convincing the best players you already have in staying. While Golesh had a good start in his first 2 weeks in recruiting, the last week has not been good. Just in the last week it looks like we will be losing Weaver, an OL player; and Battie to the transfer portal. There is still time but coach Golesh will need to hit the transfer portal hard if he wants to save his first incoming class.
  8. Weaver and Horn; arguably our 2 main receivers; is a considerable loss.
  9. A better coach then Coach Scott and those close losses to BYU ( two years ago), Florida, Cincy, UCF could have been wins. If coach Golesh is the real deal there is no reason why these close losses can't become close wins.
  10. Rescheduling games with weaker competition so we can pat up our win total would be weak and would send a horrible message. Besides there are no guarantees we would win those so called easier games. If Coach Golesh is the guy there is no reason we can't be competitive in year 2 with Louisville and NC State. We have beat them before ; and we can beat them again. Also early losses in the beginning of the season dont mean we cant be competitive in the AAC for the rest of the year
  11. The tweet could mean lots of things. Not necessarily Battie leaving.
  12. That would be too many teams. Also don't like that 5-7 is now enough to earn a bowl game in football. I like the idea of having to earn it. That said if at some point USF were to be included due to the tournament expansion I will gladly take it.
  13. I disagree. Whoever QB earns it in camp, and gives us the best chance of winning should be our starting QB. Bohanon had a slow start but once he found his rhythm he was amazing. Brown as well showed great things. Having both Bohanon and Brown is luxury. Perhaps a 2 QB system where each gets significant playing time? Either way Golesh should go with the QB that earns it. Same with every position.
  14. Yes, he is a good addition to address depth, since we saw last year that injuries can happen fast. Need to hold on to Brown and Bohanon though.
  15. That's true and the power 5 schools will have an advantage. The good news is that every AAC team will be in the same boat and will be affected about equally when it comes to the NIL and the transfer portal, so we will have to adapt. We wont be able to use it as an excuse if we don't win in the AAC.
  16. Recruiting in the current landscape will be as much about recruiting new players to come to USF as holding on to the best players you already have. Not a good week for USF since we also lost Weaver in the last week. Coach Golesh will need to convince current players that the future of USF football is bright.
  17. Congrats to Tulane! There is no reason that in the next 3 years it can't be our turn.
  18. 4 things 1) Just want to see improvement in football. Don't know if there is a magic number when it comes to wins this year, but I think 4-6 wins is doable. But this year is not going to be easy .Now by year 2 I expect a bowl game. Year 3 I expect us to be on top of the new AAC. 2) recruit, recruit, and recruit. 3) When it comes to men's basketball I expect us to end the season at .500. Anything less and Gregory must go. Its been 5 years now. 4)I want to see the OCS 100 percent finalized. I want it to be built right and look like a power 5 conference stadium ( the San Diego State and Colorado State stadiums are good examples)
  19. Tulane playing now. I hope they win and represent the AAC well. If Tulane can be in a New Year bowl, and win the AAC; there is no reason we can't. Maybe not next year, but soon.
  20. There are no curses; just bad decisions by those in power. Whether it was Judy deciding to fire coach Leavitt and to not invest in football facilities thinking we had arrived since we were in the Big East; or our athletic directors when they hired Coach Strong, and Coach Scott. But this is now the past, and we need to focus on the future. If we fail it will not be because of Judy or Coach Scott; it will be because of the decisions of our current administration.
  21. I think the reason I have stuck around and am still following the team closely even though I was a student in the early 2000's and live now far away from the Tampa region is the the hope of the next year. No matter how we suck: I have always the hope that the following year things will be different. Even last season with all the transfer portal players coming in I believed that we would have been able to tun the corner. For next season, even though I would have hired a more experienced coach; and I am not sure whether Coach Golesh is the answer; nevertheless I am hopeful that next year things will be different, that we will turner the corner; and start winning games again. Also excited about the OCS; no doubt this will bring life into the program. Happy new year to all on the board; and I think it will be an interesting year for USF football.
  22. I agree; there seems to be a huge change in the last few years regarding being committed to putting money into facilities including an OCS. There is no doubt that being left behind in the AAC has maybe lighted a little fire in their behind;. It will be interesting to see the renderings of the new OCS. I am hoping it will look something closer to Colorado State or San Diego State then lets say FAU or Tulane ( not knocking their stadiums since they are not bad). However winning will be equally if not more important then the OCS. The programs who have moved up to bigger conferences seemed to have had a combination of both putting money into facilities while winning at the same time. Lets hope our coaching hire works out since we really cant afford another 2 years of losing. We should look at TCU, Houston, San Diego State, and yes even UCF as examples of how it can be done. The good news about the UCF example is that if they can be successful, built an OCS, and be invited to the BIG 12; there is no reason that we can't.
  23. Yes, absolutely; an invite to the ACC over the Big12 would be even better.
  24. I for one hope we will play them again since it would probably mean that we were invited to the Big 12. Whether we want to admit it or not they are were we would like to be. IF UCF can be successful, built an OCS, and get a Big 12 invite; there is no reason we can't. The UCF-USF rivalry can be of benefit to us in the future.
  25. The talent is there to win 4 games next season. I expect a bowl game in year 2, compete for an AAC championship in year 3, and be ranked in year 4. Anything less would be disappointing. New coaches come in all the time and turn a program around in less time. While it wont be a easy, a good coach can do it; and a great coach can even beat this trajectory. All the tools are there to succeed.
