  1. probably not with that opening schedule. NIU is not bad, but otherwise there's going to be a lot of 3-0 teams early playing similarly soft opening OOC schedules. Had they won their bowl, I could have seen them getting a few votes in the preseason top 25 (it shouldn't matter but it always does w voters) but they would only be ranked next season at 4-0. Dont discount losing a good chunk of the OL. One key to this seasons success looked to be the veteran OL providing nice lanes for Mack and Flowers to run thru, and giving QF a pretty good amount of time on pass plays. They will have games against good defenses next season where they will struggle to put up points like they did the 2nd half of this season
  2. I really dont know for sure what Harlan wanted to do w Tags before the season. I do know that whether or not he wanted him gone, the point was moot because they probably couldn't afford to be paying 2 guys not to coach here. Plenty of boosters wanted him gone, and there really wasn't a ton of optimism on the season. I did want him gone, and yes, I'd have preferred they go 0-12 to something like 5-7. That record does nothing, either one of those means you didn't have a winning season and didn't go to a bowl (unless your Nebraska). I'd have preferred 8-5 to either of those, so that's good that it happened. I still don't think Willie is a good coach. The offense that won games this season clearly wasn't his, but credit to him for finally realizing his offense blows. If he can recruit and get out of his own way on offense, it may not matter much. But I still believe they'll lose 3-4 a season annually because he's simply out coached or doesn't prepare his team for what they're about to face. But I'm fine with it if he proves me wrong.
  3. I can't blame them about the football team outlook. I mean Willie is basically still here thanks to Skip still getting checks from the program, otherwise they might have gotten rid of him after last season. Judging from the high school game crowds this season, a lot of people had already given up.
  4. Can Chris Perry cut Antigua? Actually drove by campus today before game, thought of trying to find a $5 ticket in the parking lot but had a little too much to do.
  5. I loved this too much just to upvote it. Spot on Finally read past page 1 of the 247 article. Holy smokes, cancelling a subscription seems about as convoluted as (showing my age) cancelling AOL back in the day. I pretty much figured it would be V5 with a little more recruiting info and some USF AD jock sniffing by Colin for a nugget of 'inside info' now and then. And it pretty much is. I don't get the attraction to those sites. I am going to know when recruits commit exactly the same time those members are. If people in any other walk of life were as interested in 17 year old boys as they are on "Warchant" Chris Hanson would want to have a talk with them.
  6. I'm all for trying to keep things in a positive direction, but..you can't just try and squash any speculation, or people that don't just crap USF sunshine in every post. I get not wanting to perpetuate every weird, oddball rumor (like, just as a weird example, if I came on here spouting rumors that player X was gay and being shunned by the team, I would expect a stern warning, maybe a temp ban and for my thread to be taken down immediately) but speculating what's going on w Allen, when Auburn boards are doing just that every day, is entirely fair game, and to me, precisely what message boards are for. I want to be able to read some of the between the lines type stuff, even some 3rd party "my friend who knows coach Y says he's staying at UM" type stuff. To say "let's just focus on the game" to a message board poster and/ or twitter follower, is like saying "let's just focus on the show" to people on a celebrity gossip forum talking about Whatever the Kardashians did this week.
  7. I liked V5, but there was no way on earth I was going to pay for a sliver of "insider" access when everyone will find out the exact truth on subjects at the same time. Finding out some 3* TE is going to commit 6 hours early isn't really my idea of worthwhile paid access. I also liked that people were a little more free to rant on V5 without the barrage of "Yay bulls #1!" eternal optimists that down vote anything with a hint of negativity, as if we aren't allowed to be frustrated with the program in what have been some frustrating years. But yeah.. I don't know that guy personally, but I know people that do that can't mention him without an eyeroll or 3. But he was always respectful to me over there, and whether my options differed from others there, so was everyone else (as I was towards them)
  8. Good. I felt like Price had better offers, but stuck with USF for better or worse, even when transferring could have probably helps his numbers. I hope he impresses and catches on at the next level
  9. You're gonna consider this hating, but.. Losing 4 starting OL hurts way more than people seem to think- people tend to look at skill positions and, if the QB returns, automatically assume more wins. Between that, and an ever more likely loss of the DC, not to mention perhaps other teams figuring out how to make QF use his arm instead of his legs, and I think 6-6.
  10. Don't think anyone really knows anything about him. Doesn't look like he had (any?) other offers but looks like a prototypical DE. Guess we'll have to trust the evaluators. Otherwise why not go after a HS kid you can get 4 years from?
  11. A win would tie a nice bow on the season, and perhaps make USF early favorites in the conference next season, no doubt
  12. Yeah I was considering if it was the St. Pete bowl, even then I'd have bought thru Stub Hub. Still not giving USF athletics any more money.
  13. Can't say anything bad about White. He showed promise and wasn't terrible considering being thrust in as a probably not ready true freshman, having to deal with Taggarts play calling and his mismanagement of the whole QB position. I wish him well at WKU. Did having to play for USF the last two seasons count as a "hardship" that gets him an extra year of eligibility?
  14. I could see the AAC winning all of the bowl games in which they score more points than the other team. However in the games they score less than their opponent, I will say they likely won't win.
  15. You can't blame him for at least entertaining the idea of more than doubling his salary and coaching in the biggest conference in football. If nothing else, it enhances his profile and helps grease the wheels on an extention. The team he's probably most loyal to is the Taggarts, and that's fine. What I'm kind of curious about is if he got that job, if he'd go back to his crappy ball control offense since he'd have slightly better access to players that would fit that system. You haveto think he's itching to make his "Harbawful" offense work again somewhere
  16. Everyone who can't win right away says this.. Or at least implies this. "Give me lots of time to get my guys in, so I can buy myself a couple years of not being under pressure" That's why I wouldn't be so quick to reward 2/3rd's of a good season because 1 team interviewed him. OK Willie, you garnered some interest as possibly a 3rd option for SC, noted. If next season starts like this 1 finished, we'll lock you up (with a considerable buyout) before December comes around next year so that this doesn't become an annual thing.
  17. Agreed- while I do not think they should pull a Woolard and immediately offer him a lot of money, I'd probably assure him if the past half season are an indication of how things will be from here on, we will talk extension next season
  18. I don't think it's wrong for him to interview though. Coaches everywhere do this, or at least entertain offers (Stoops, and indirectly Jimbo) lots of times just to kick the tires, leverage their own team, etc. And if they offered him, and more than doubled his salary (I'd guess USC would pay him somewhere between 2.5 and 3) well.. he'd have to have some serious loyalty to USF, a program that (rightly) was ready to dismiss him not so long ago, to decline an SEC job. Mario Cristobal remained loyal to FIU when Rutgers came calling, and then got canned a year later. I This is the outcome when you have success at a smaller program, but it's a good thing if bigger schools are considering our coach. While I'm not his biggest fan, I don't want to see him leave now either, but if by some miracle he gets that job, I think USF could go in a number of directions and be fine (I'd get Lincoln Riley on the phone ASAP)
  19. RELAX. Like I said in the "should be give Willie an extension?" thread, nobody is really going to want to give a guy who went 14-22 at 1 of the worst D1 conferences the keys to a fairly big time SEC or any P5 team. Not yet anyway. Not to be rude, but while there's no 'Rooney rule" in college, this may just be an interview mostly done to cover all their bases. All of the other names I've heard linked to that job have more experience and success that WT. Yes, even Muschamp went 28-20, which, at most other schools wouldn't be that bad. And his defenses are routinely top 10, like Willie here, if he can just get out of the way on offense he could have success. RR has a proven track record, and Schiano, despite being the biggest A-hole walking the earth, is a pretty good college coach that took a football outpost of a school and made it into a competitive program. Yes, fans here were calling for Willie's head. For good reason. He finally managed to get out of the way on offense (say what you want, but the offense ran in the final 8 games resembled NOTHING he has run before here or at WKU- perhaps it was his idea to change, but those were not his plays) and basically have the team finally play to it's potential. As far as recruiting- he's doing good in comparison to other AAC teams, but basically the guy is getting all 3* FL guys- not bad, at all, but it's not like they are stealing guys from FSU and UF. Basically he's doing what Leavitt did recruiting, but after Skip sleeping thru recruiting and coming out with Matt Floyd and Alex Mut, WT looks like some guru. He's not. He's not getting the SC job, and honestly if he does, perhaps there is an adjustment period with another coach, but long term they will be fine. There is no guarantee USF can duplicate this season's success next season when they lose almost the whole OL anyway. To knee jerk and throw money at him like they did Skip would be foolish too. Let him interview.
  20. I'd have to think, despite the turnaround this season, at an SEC school that has sniffed the CCG recently, that their fans wouldn't be thrilled hiring a coach who was 14-22 in his last job in an inferior conference. Yes I know everyone on here will say "yeah, but!" about his record, but it is what it is at this juncture. At some point, yeah he's going to get serious inquiries (hopefully, that will mean more success here) but for now, I can't see any competitive P5 schools offering him their HC gig.
  21. They are updating those in the next 2 years I believe, but of course getting the taxpayers to pay for it. Agreed on the sponsors/donors take also- There are people I know/work with, some of whom even went to USF at one time who act like driving down Fowler is akin to driving down Crenshaw in Compton. You'd likely get an uptick from student crowds, but I think corporate/season tickets/ single game crowd would take a hit that would probably even it out, attendance wise, and those people actually pay for their seats. It will happen someday, but to expect them to even break ground anytime soon, or to expect public/University money to finance a new stadium in the near future.. I mean, I know some of you want it "cuz it's not FOOTBAW at a fancy pants pro stadium!" but it's just not a pressing issue considering the paltry crowds and step down in competition from the Big East days.
  22. Yeah if this current team reminds me of anyone USF played back then (in a better conference vs better teams) it would be a poor mans version of WVU. Oh, they did ok against them too. Team Grothe 24, Team Flowers 13
  23. Yeah if you have an anti-OCS attitude, this thread isn't for you. Apparently only pro 'crappy on campus stadium' ideas are welcome. Cuz it just feelz lika da cawledge footbawl!
