Conference USA has officially began its expansion with the league set to add Texas-San Antonio in 2013, according to multiple media reports. The move comes just one year after UTSA announced a move to the WAC set to begin July 1.

"Joining CUSA ... will provide greater national visibility and association with universities of similar enrollment, academic standing and community size," the Texas Regents agenda item reads, per The Associated Press.

North Texas and Florida International from the Sun Belt and Louisiana Tech from the WAC are also targets for 2013 expansion, the website reports.

Those four teams would replace Houston, SMU, Memphis and UCF, which are headed to the Big East.

Meanwhile, the Mountain West Conference, which loses Boise State and San Diego State to the Big East, is expected to add Utah State and San Jose State in 2013, sources told

If the realignment projections are realized, the WAC in 2013 would have only three remaining football programs—New Mexico State, Idaho and Texas State.

Texas-San Antonio competes in the Southland Conference in its Olympic sports. Former Miami coach Larry Coker is the Roadrunners’ football coach.
