I would think he would hire someone with local ties on the recruiting circuit, and a former USF bull,. Just my opinion?

I hope he gets a shot at that.

Marquel Blackwell and Steve Bird, who have worked as program assistants for USF football, are no longer part of Skip Holtz's coaching staff and have left to pursue other opportunities in coaching. Blackwell has been a program assistant for the last three years, while Bird moved into that role in 2010 after working as a graduate assistant in 2009. Holtz has not filled either position yet. Blackwell, 32, who played quarterback at USF from 1999-2002, remains the program's all-time leading passer, still holding the Bulls' career records with 9,108 yards and 67 touchdown passes, among others. He was the head coach at Freedom High in 2007-08. Bird has been a college football coach since 1987, including stops as an assistant coach at Pittsburgh and West Virginia.
