BAD, my buddies had seats you could see the infield but the cat walk blocked view from the entire outfield. Wasnt the stadium built for baseball?

It was only the 3rd time  I've ever sat the the upper deck in about 60 or so Rays games.

They weren't as bad as I thought.

Probably more than you ever wanted to know, but...The stadium was actually built to be a multi-purpose facility for Pinellas county. According to everything I've read and remember...there was a mini-"arms race" between Tampa and St. Pete in the 80s. Tampa would not build a stadium until they had a committment from MLB, so St. Pete decided building the stadium without a team would guarantee the eventual team would be located there. (They were right)

This is a cartoon that ran in the papers back in the day:

Here is one person's account...makes for an interesting read if you have alot of time to kill, especially if you're like me and were too young when it all happened:

Reading this tells me that baseball will be here to stay despite what anyone else thinks....because if Pinellas says no to a new stadium....eventually the Hillsborough powers-that-be will attempt to swoop back in once and for all.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
