Tim MacMahon E-mail News tips

Dr. Wade Phillips said Terence Newman strained his groin after getting tangled up with another player during this morning's practice. Phillips isn't ready to put a timetable on Newman's return, but he emphasized that the groin is strained, not pulled.

He'd probably say Newman was day-to-day, except that was the term used on Greg Ellis for more than a month last summer, leading to a testy exchange between Phillips and a high-pitched reporter during a press conference.

First-round CB Mike Jenkins got the first-team reps at left CB after Newman's injury this morning. Adam "Pacman" Jones played the left side in Tennessee, but his reps this morning all came on the right side.

"He can play both sides," Phillips said. "We probably won't change anything, because we've got enough rotation that he'll get plenty of reps along with Jenkins and [Orlando] Scandrick along with those guys on the other side."
