MEET BEN MOFFITT

6 feet 2, 235 pounds.

Sophomore linebacker

"He's the best technician to ever come through our weight room," said SouthSumter coach Inman Sherman, who said Moffitt learned the proper technique in one afternoon lesson. Moffitt now can lift 355 pounds, 10 shy of USF's record for linebackers, and his bench-press went from 300 to 365 in two years.

STRONG START: Moffitt earned the Defensive Golden Bull award in 2003 as USF's top scout team player, then started five games last fall to earn all-freshman Conference USA honors. He forced a fumble and had five tackles in Saturday's loss at Penn State.

DON'T CALL HIM BEN : Listen closely at Raymond James and you'll hear Moffitt 's family shouting his childhood nickname, Boogee (pronounced with a soft G, like "Boo G.") The name came from his favorite pair of bedroom slippers as an infant, which he called "boogee slippers."

HOME COOKING: An avid deer hunter, Moffitt 's favorite food is fried venison [...].
