IN THE HUDDLE 2009: Otis Brown, Jr

When you cover recruiting in the state of Florida, spending nearly every weekend at a camp or a combine, you tend to find some of the top players that flipping through the internet from home will never provide you.

Here is an athlete, like many we evaluate, that we saw for the first time at the end of his sophomore year, and like many at the event, we were sold this will be one of the top prospects for the Class of 2009.

Today, IN THE HUDDLE brings you to Gainesville, where talent continues to shine in the shadow of one of the nation's top collegiate programs.

IN THE HUDDLE has taken you to practice sessions in Bradenton, pre-game workouts in Merritt Island, and camps and combines from Arcadia to Gainesville, where Brown and his teammates are getting ready for the 2008 season.

THE BROWN REPORT

NAME: Otis Brown, Jr.

SCHOOL: Gainesville

CITY: Gainesville

POSITION: DB, RB, KR, PR

HEIGHT: 5-9

WEIGHT: 170

40 TIME: 4.47 (Reported)

HEAD COACH: TBA

SCOUTING BROWN: Where do you start with such a versatile athlete who has speed, tremendous vision and a knack of making things happen?

Having the opportunity to have watched him in person as well as on film, you get a sense that this is someone who has been taught very well. Having a father who is a coach has certainly contributed to his over development and maturity.

Our belief is that here is an athlete who has an opportunity to be on the of the state's top cover corners. His speed, instincts and ability to recognize what the offenses are running comes from his experience as an overall athlete.

While he is a tremendous kick and punt returner, and makes a solid impression as a running back, where he combines speed, knowledge and athletic ability, this is someone who will be recruited in the defensive secondary. Too much natural ability and a sense of being able to turn a game around with one big play.

In a state once again loaded with quality athletic talent, here is someone who will continue to thrust himself into the spotlight, and being less than two miles from the University of Florida, one has to believe that the Gators will keep this athlete in their 2009 plans!

BROWN BITS: Was first discovered befoe his junior season when he was one of the Elite 22 players at the Jacksonville Mandarin MSLSports.net Combine, where coaches and fellow combine participants were impressed at his overall skill level. Not only does this standout get it done on the football field, but is also considered one of the elite track performers as well.

His father, Otis Brown Sr., is a coach at Gainesville High and is up for the job as head coach.

WHAT THE COLLEGE RECRUITERS ARE SAYING: "Speed, athletic ability and the skill level to change the course of a game. This yhoung man is the real deal, and he is only going to get better, quicker and stronger."

HIS BAGS ARE PACKED: Early on, it has been UCF, USF and Illinois with Florida, Florida State and FAU also showing some interest as well.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
