No. 22/23 USF Softball Team Opens Up 2007 Season On Friday

TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 8, 2007) – The No. 22/23 ranked University of South Florida softball team opens up its 2007 campaign this weekend hosting the Best Western Tournament Feb. 9-11 at the USF Softball Field.

Friday’s action will pit the Bulls against Western Kentucky at 3 p.m. and Arkansas at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, USF will face Virginia at 12:30 p.m. Games scheduled for the remainder of the day on Saturday will be broken up into the No. 1 seed vs. the No. 4 seed at 3 p.m. and the No. 2 seed and No. 3 seed will play at 5:30 p.m. Sunday’s action will feature the consolation game at 10 a.m. and the championship game at 12:30 p.m.

The 2007 season marks only the fifth time in history that the Bulls have hosted a tournament to kick off a season and only their third in five years. In all-time opening tournament action, USF has posted a record 3-3 in its first game. In all-time opening games since 1985, the Bulls have amassed a record of 16-6, including a record of 13-3 at home. The Bulls are currently riding a two-game losing streak in lidlifters.

USF will look to get off to a strong start and build from last year’s 50-25 (17-3 BIG EAST) mark, while looking for its fifth-straight NCAA postseason appearance.
