Men's soccer wins 2-0 over #8 Notre Dame on the road in their BIG EAST opener.

Women's soccer wins 1-0 on an 88th minute goal over #23 Marquette in their BIG EAST opener.

Volleyball wins 3-0 over Jacksonville.

Stand and cheer Bulls fans... 3-0 to start the weekend.

With two more soccer matches, two more for volleyball, and one for football, we could be looking at 8-0 this weekend.  :)

Guest AstroBull

Really suprised at volleyball's success so far this season.

Has Fleck turned the corner with the girls soccer team?

Glad to see the boys dominate from start to finish.

Here's to the rest of the weekend [smiley=beer.gif]

USF Shuts Out No.8 Notre Dame in BIG EAST Opener, 2-0

NOTRE DAME, Ind. (September 8, 2006) – Outstanding play in the net by senior Dane Brenner coupled with goals by sophomore Jordan Seabrook and junior Simon Schoendorf led the University of South Florida men’s soccer team (3-2-0, 1-0-0 BIG EAST) to a 2-0 win over the No. 8-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish (2-2-1, 0-1-0 BIG EAST) on Friday, Sept. 8 at Alumni Field.

In the team’s first BIG EAST contest of the 2006 season and first meeting with the Fighting Irish since 1985, USF scored two late goals to move to 1-0-0 in conference play. The contest also marked USF’s first-ever visit to Alumni Field.

Brenner’s six saves led to his third shutout victory of the season. The High Point, N.C., native not only prevented the ball from finding the back of the net but, continuously defused the Irish attack by cutting off crosses and stopping the play before it could build. The win was the 30th of his career and resulted in his 15th-career clean sheet.

Following a first half, which saw both teams looking to create chances, the Bulls broke the scoreless tie, with Seabrook’s second goal of the season in the 86th minute. Receiving a long pass from Schoendorf, Seabrook split the Irish defense and buried a shot past goalkeeper Andrew Quinn to give the Bulls a 1-0 lead. The goal was the first game-winner of the season by the Indianapolis, Ind., striker. Schoendorf was credited with his first assist of the season on the score. The Karlsruhe, Germany, native wasn’t done, notching his first goal of the season three minutes later with a strike in the 89th minute. Streaking down the left side of the field, Schoendorf placed a shot far post to give USF a 2-0 advantage.

Schoendorf nearly netted a goal earlier in the half, taking a shot on net in the 75th minute. However, Quinn made an acrobatic save to keep the game tied at 0-0.

Despite being out-shot 17-9, USF trailed by just one shot on net in the contest (6-5).

The first half saw both teams trying to create chances. USF registered four shots (two on frame) in the first 45 minutes, hile the Irish tallied 10 (only 3 on net).

The win improves USF to 10-2-0 all-time in BIG EAST action, resulting the head coach George Kiefer’s first-ever victory over Notre Dame.

The Bulls will wrap up its current four-game road trip with visit to Milwaukee, Wis., and familiar foe Marquette on Sunday, Sept. 10. The contest will be the first-ever BIG EAST matchup between the two teams, which have met a total of 12 times (USF leads the series history 7-5-0). Game time is 2 p.m.

USF WOMEN’S SOCCER

Bulls Defeat No. 23 Golden Eagles in BIG EAST Opener

Tampa, Fla. (Sept. 8, 2006) – The University of South Florida women’s soccer team opened their BIG EAST conference schedule with a 1-0 victory over the No. 23 Marquette Golden Eagles Friday night at the USF Soccer Stadium.

The Bulls controlled the pace of the first half, taking the first two shots on goal. Junior Lindsay Brauer excited the crowd with a break-away shot in the first half, but Marquette goalkeeper Laura Boyer made the one-on-one save to secure the score at 0-0 during the first 45 minutes.

The Golden Eagles came out in the second half with a new found intensity, but the Bulls quickly found their step and again controlled possession of the game. In the 88th minute, junior Paulina McIntosh crossed a ball to Brauer, who was in front of the Marquette net. Brauer quickly slid the ball across the net to freshman Jaleesa Scott, who pounded the ball into the back of the net.

Scott scored her third goal of the season while Brauer gained her third assist of her USF career. McIntosh was also granted an assist on the play, her first of the season and second of her career.

The Golden Eagles registered just eight total shots, one of which was a shot on goal saved by senior goalkeeper Casey Garrett.

The Bulls took 10 shots, three on goal.

USF returns to non-conference play against Florida International University on Sunday, Sept. 10 at the USF Soccer Stadium. Kick off is at 1 p.m.

“In my mind, I’m kind of like, ‘OK, excuses over'. We know what we need to do. We’ve got the right team together, and now we move forward, and we’ll evaluate and be accountable to each other, including myself, from this point forward.”

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
