Long snapper joins USF after layoff of six years

By GREG AUMAN, Times Staff Writer

Published August 5, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TAMPA - Darryl Dudding was in middle school a decade ago when he first met USF coach Jim Leavitt. And while he hasn't played football in almost six years, he'll be on scholarship with the Bulls in the fall as a long snapper.

...

Dudding still must be accepted into USF, but he'll be its second long snapper on scholarship along with senior Ryan Bordeau, a former walk-on from Seminole. The two were teammates in middle school.

...

We have 2 Long Snappers on Scholarship and one has not played in almost 6 years ?!? Busbee looked okay in the Spring, but more importantly, we had Ryan back!  :-/

We did not offer 2005's K (Bronson) a Scholarship ?!?!

Kyle Bronson:

11 of 16 FG's Made

Longest FG, 47 yards (Tied for 3rd in School History)

Most Consecutive PAT's Made - 20 (5th All Time)

Most Consecutive FG's Made - 6 (Tied for 3rd All Time)

PAT Percentage in a Season - 96.7 (29-30) (Tied for 3rd All Time)

FG Percentage in a Season - 68.8 (2nd All Time)

I don't want this to turn into a bashing season ... but can somebody tell me WHY this is okay ?!?!

::)

I agree.

Bronson did a good job last year and should have been given the scholarship.

Maybe he is more concerned with the ball getting t the place kicker than the kicker making the kick??

ET

someone posted this on Gregs blog in response to your question

Leavitt said he would have been glad to give Bronson a scholarship this fall, but Bronson said he wanted one last spring, when it would have counted against USF's limit of 25 "initials" per year. Seems confusing, but there's a big difference between the two times. Now Bronson is at Texas State, and while he's on scholarship, he's not guaranteed the starting job there either, with another transfer from Baylor on roster ...
