what a year in NY to be a 13 year old sports junkie

   It seemed to take Willis Reed about 10 minutes to get his long and old and wounded legs out of the town car that had pulled up to the Diamond Club entrance to Shea Stadium about 11:30 in the morning. He was there to be part of the first-pitch ceremonies for the Mets' home opener yesterday, along with Walt Frazier and Tom Seaver and an old Jet named Emerson Boozer, a way for the Mets to celebrate that time 35 years ago when the Knicks and Mets and Jets were all champions, when it felt as if New York City owned the world in sports.
