Let's just all agree to disagree.  The game will be played, lots of people will go and have a good time.  UCF and USF fans will tailgate and some will mingle(peacefully).

Oh btw...Eastern and Western Michigan are in the same conference. :P

agreed

as far as the Michigans I know and still no one cares about the game outside of Michigan and they do not really care.

Nobody in Michigan gives a crap about games amongst Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan, or Western Michigan for any sport.  Those schools are nonentities as far as Michiganders are concerned.

Sigh, I am simply amazed at the ignorance displayed here.  For the last time, USF does not have a rival in football.  We've never played at any level long enough for burgeoning rivalries to blossom.  That would include only having played UCF once.  Call me in a couple years if we see sold out games every year.  Otherwise, this is nothing more than the rantings, ravings, and speculations of a group of fans on both sides that want a rivalry with anybody so bad that they will resort to stupidity to try to prove their dreams.

True, but UCF is the most suitable rival at this point.   That isn't by anybody's design, but it is what it is.

Then let time take its course.  Attempts to make this seem like more than it really is at this point in time actually creates more dissension.  If it is going to become a rivalry, then allow it to happen.  Don't try to force it down everyone's throat simply because you want it.

As someone pointed out earlier, it's a school rivalry.  Football may come in time, but the two schools have been rivaling each other for a while now.

This feels to me like a rivalry already.  I despise UCF more than any other football program, every victory by them consumes me with anger.  Nothing would drive me crazier than seeing one of our recruits switching his commitment to UCF.  Any year that UCF makes it to a bowl game and we don't would be a depressing one.  And a UCF victory in a bowl game before us would drive me to the brink of madness.  I don't feel like that about any other team so, at least to me, this is already a rivalry.  Nobody outside I-4 cares now but they will 5 years from now.  Rivalries don't just happen, you have to schedule a team annually for it to develop, and both student populations have to care enough about the game to show up in force.

Seems to be a rivialry for some....

and not for others.

I personally think that it has developed into the start of a rivalry.  If the game sells well this year and the series is continued, it will pretty much be sold as a rivalry from here on out, especially if UCF wins this year.

It is not about "Football Rivalry"  it is about an all sports, school rivalry.  These schools have been "rivals" for 20 years.

Football is a new addition.

Oh, now this non-rivalry thread is at 11 pages...let's see if everyone can rehash the same arguements over and over again until next years football game.

Lets make it 50 pages!  ;D

I disagree.  It may seem that way to a few obsessed fans on each side, but the bulk of people don't give a ****.  Only time will tell if it becomes a rivalry.

Not trying to force anything at all.  Just pointing out the obvious.  If this board is a microcosm of the feelings on both campuses it is certainly a rivalry.  I know too many people -- casual fans that can't name two players -- that think it is a rivalry.  My efforts to convince them otherwise get a cross-eyed stare like I'm stupid.  Their response is typically, "well if they aren't our rival who is?"

Actually, a decent question.   By default they may be it.

You don't have to convince me.  I know why it is not a good idea.  I used to campaign on the anti-rival platform.   I gave up.  Now it is just good, old-fashioned fun.  Somebody goes home with their feelings hurt.  Last time it was UCF.  Let's hope that happens again in their house.
