Waiting to interview McCullum and Buckley were three local Syracuse TV stations. Heck, USF would kill to get more than one local Tampa TV station to come out and actually cover a home game. HELP IS COMING: The addition of Arizona transfer Jesus Verdejo next season should be a major boost to the Bulls’ offense. Verdejo, a former prep star at Miami Christian, chose USF over Miami. Verdejo will make an instant impact offensively, but must improve his defense. There’s no questioning his offensive skills, but it was his lack of commitment to the defensive end that ultimately kept him from playing more at Arizona. Art Alvarez, who was Verdejo’s coach at Miami Christian, said USF getting Verdejo is “just what the doctor ordered. He feels he’ll have an opportunity to come in and be one of their go to guys,†Alvarez said. “It’s a real good situation.†Verdejo visited USF Thursday and Friday before heading to Miami Saturday night to attend the Maryland-Miami game. “I was impressed how Coach McCullum stayed after practice Friday to work extra with James Holmes,†Verdejo said. “I also liked the players and had a great time there.†Verdejo will have 2 1/2 years of eligibility beginning in December. Verdejo will be USF’s second midseason transfer next season. Former LSU forward Kentrell Gransberry will also become eligible in December and have 1 1/2 years eligibility. Gransberry began practicing with the Bulls a few days ago and was dominating at times until he became winded. Of course, Gransberry has an entire year to get into playing shape.
