Two reserves have left the University of Louisville football team, the school announced yesterday.

Reggie Bradshaw was fourth on the depth chart at running back but figured to see significantly more action than he saw a year ago when he carried for 116 yards and one touchdown in 11 games.

Bradshaw had slipped behind redshirt freshman George Stripling in preseason practices but had been seeing extensive duty on special teams. His departure is a hit to U of L's depth, but head coach Bobby Petrino could counter by using junior fullbacks Derionte Taylor and James Jackson.

Bradshaw couldn't be reached for comment, nor could former St. Xavier High School standout Justin Deeley, a walk-on safety who also has left the team.

The redshirt freshman had a productive spring and looked to be moving into position for playing time, though he had seen mostly scout-team duty in preseason camp.

Times picks Cardinalsto reach BCS title game

The hype surrounding the No. 12-ranked Cardinals continued as The New York Times picked U of L to make the Rose Bowl -- this season's Bowl Championship Series national championship game -- against Michigan.

Times college football writer Pete Thamel, who made the pick, said he based his choice on what he considered U of L's favorable chances to finish undefeated and a strong hunch that defending national champion Southern California will not.

"I think people forget that last season, with so many undefeated teams, was really an anomaly," Thamel said. "I think the big question is whether Louisville can rise high enough to be considered for the BCS championship. It's just a question of whether the old guard will decide whether their talent level is up there with the other top teams."

if UL goes to the championship game this year would it be worth it to have lost to them?
