BREAKING NEWS: Super Bowl is Tampa-bound in 2009

Though Houston and Atlanta were considered the favorites, Tampa pulled the upset and was awarded the Super Bowl in February, 2009 by NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue.

"It's such a wonderful community, and wonderful weather. What a combination.....what a combination. We love the people and we love the area," Buccaneers' owner Malcom Glazer said at the press conference in New York City.

"We left everything on the table, and they (NFL owners) were all very impressed with the presentation. After that, we just had to sweat it out. Our past Super Bowl experiences and the weather, that combination just can't be beat," said Buccaneers' executive vice president, Bryan Glazer.

"We told the committee that Tampa will put on the greatest Super Bowl the NFL has ever seen," said Hillsborough County councilman Jim Norman.

At the press conference, Tampa city mayor Pam Iorio said that Tampa is a changing and evolving community, and that was stressed to the NFL's owners. ;D

Houston just had one so I'm not sure why they were a favorite. I'm glad we beat out George Hamilton in Atlanta ...
