Smazz

A RedSox fans learns a lot about himself every year. Last year Wakefield would have been MVP of playoffs if sox go to series but instead was goat after giving up Boones HR. Wake is one of the best people in all of baseball and tried to take all the blame for the loss. He did not walk away from press ala Farvre, and he did not blame others.  He went back to Florida and when the boston wrters held their annual banquet and awards show Timmy again won award for outstanding service. He thought he would hear some boos and some cheers after playoffs. Instead he got a standing ovation, Sox fans know baseball and no one to cheer and when to boo. Sox fans will be first to give an opposing pitcher a standing O after a no-hitter at fenway then any other fans. I've seen numerous curtain calls to opposing teams.  After the game 7 collapse it knocked me on my arse as the emotion of being so close so many times just kills you but in same regard the next day I was not bitter with the team, I was proud of how close they came and more importantly how hard they tried. I have said many times that the easiest thing in sports is being a Yankee fan but the most gratifying is being a Red Sox fan and the world better be careful when the Sox do finally win that coveted championship.

Very VERY well said.

Bill Simmons once said "Rooting for the Yankees is like rooting for the house in blackjack."

There's a reason why the 29 other teams hate the Yankees, and it's NOT because they win.  It's because they damage the competitive balance of the game in order to do so.

I don't care if the Red Sox NEVER make it to the playoffs again as long as I live and if the Yankees win the next 25 world series.  The Yankees have, do, and always will suck as long as Steinbrenner uses the rest of the Majors as his farm system.

You don't have to lose to suck.  You just need to destroy the very fabric of the game you're competing in.  With this criteria, the Yankees SUCK!

As much as I agree the yankees do suck, i hardly thing steinbrenner is doing anything the 29 other teams couldn't do if they had the money.  He is playing within the rules of the system.  He has a huge advantage being in NY, but do you think he should just not do whatever it takes to win?  I love that attitude... just hate the Yankees.

See, the thing is, the other teams DON'T have that kind of cash.  Steinbrenner's sitting in NY with his own lucrative TV deal that pays him a ton of money, cablevision contracts, blah blah blah.  Money teams like the Rays can only DREAM of.

Playing by the rules of the system?  Yeah, but it's a system that's inherently flawed.  He's exploiting it more than he's playing by it's rules.

The Sox are no better.  However, I think they're forced to spend (along with Baltimore and Toronto to lesser extents) because it's the AL East and it's kill or be killed.  The Rays are an appetizer for the other 4 teams.

Baseball needs a salary cap.  It's a simple as that.

And, for the record, I'm a moderate Republican.  I just hate seeing the game I loved growin up be destroyed by outrageous salaries, steroids, etc etc etc.

Do feel the same way with the broken election system where the rich can poor millions of dollars into getting their candidates elected?  Perhaps we should subsidize Nader.  lol

Do you feel the same way towards Microsoft and other corporations that simply produce a better product and "win" against their competition?

Hey LK,

Lets keep this battle to why we all think the YANKEES SUCK!!

Keep in mind the real reason the yanks were so good over the last 8 years may have been due to the best bench coach/brawler Don "Chipmunk" Zimmer and now he is with the Rays so just maybe its the sox and the rays in the playoffs from the east this year and the yanks are sent golfing early?

UEI...

You are right, it is the system that sucks, but to the benefit of both the sox and the yanks.

Its not their faults that the other teams either don't have or don't want to spend the money.

You can't fault someone for playing by the rules to make a fortune, as steinbrenner has.  Winning means more profit for him and if he can exploit the rules to his advantage, he SHOULD do so.

I hope he fails (but still has the money to give tot he bulls ;) )
