Thought this article might give a little insight. 80-90 plays a game... actually just read it. This demonstrates that many have no idea as to what we're going to see this season... and Kinnan is playing a large role. I guess it is a matter of perspective. He did not just start one game. HE WAS NAMED THE STARTER FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SEASON, did not finish the game and never started again (did he even see the field again). I agree, 100%, that the QB position is Flowers to lose. It is not Flowers' fault, but CWT is in win now mode. He should have stuck with Flowers last year. I do not want to hear about all of the emotional trials, many of the kids have a story of overcoming, if that makes me sound like a jerk then I am sorry, USF football is business. CWT will make the business decision of going with Bench at some point. Flowers is not ready and does not have the fortune of working through growing pains this year. Tough spot for the kid for sure. I saw plenty of the spring game and I have seen NOTHING from Flowers that makes me think he is ready to lead this team. dude... I don't think you even understand what I'm getting at. All of those things are great, but they don't score points. People are gauging his overall talent on last year because that is the only game time situation people have. Using anything else is just guessing, hoping, and like California Bull said, relying on his 247 ranking coming out of High School to justify using words like "high ceiling". Do you really think that anyone on this board wants USF to fail? Of course not, but some, like myself, simply don't have as rosy outlook as say, you. I wish I could live in the world of conjecture and hyperbole (at least I hope it was hyperbole..forged in loss or desire not to fail... rooooaaaar). Was that a line from Rocky? Either way, don't get so upset when people disagree with you and realize that everyone who does disagree with you on this particular point really does hope you are right. I still believe, based on facts, CWT hot seat, Bench being a Senior, Flowers' limited real college experience, that Bench will either start or be starting by the end of the Memphis game because CWT needs wins. Flower's still needs another year, which is also the reason I think he will transfer if he does not go Dan Marino and lock up the position. I'm not relying on his 247 rating... that's just silly. He's a better fit and QB than Bench. He's a better football player than Bench. OK... Taggart is on the hot seat... So he's going to play Flowers because he's better and gives us a better chance to win. Seems to be what analyst think too... I'm just saying.

Anyone who thinks Mike White was our best option really shouldn't be taken seriously. I can see what you mean about Bench... Maybe he can be serviceable. Because he's serviceable at best. He's not going to overwhelm anyone with athletic ability but he's serviceable. If Flowers does what I think he can do in this system, he can be big time.

How about this... Mike White just was not a very good QB and Steven Bench is serviceable at best. White was an interception machine and Bench couldn't win a game to save his life. He has been forced to play musical chairs... Matt Floyd? Bobby Eveld? Mike White? Steven Bench?... White was a take because there wasn't anything available that year. Bench because we literally had no QBs except an incoming freshman and Bobby and Matt.... Flowers is the guy Taggart was banking on. He was the big get. He's the first serviceable QB to put on a USF uniform since B.J. Daniels left. The system is a run option system, something he excelled at in High School. He's not throwing the ball 30 times a game. He will be running... a lot. Passing also. I'm wondering if any of you even understand the offensive system is different. It's almost like you're inventing things in your head to rationalize you wanting the school to be terrible. The past two seasons? Yeah I can see it... but this year... I'm like... "Do you not see what's going on?"

Flowers was a true freshman getting spot play in a west coast offense where most of his packages were wildcat. He started one game the day after he found out his brother was dead (having lost his other brother, mother, and father to death) and people are trying to use last season to gauge his overall talent. I think that kid has a iron resolve and where you see him lagging, I see something special in a guy who has managed to make it through that and to be honest, he's one of the top 3 athletes on the team overall and you're putting in him an offense he was raised running and saying, "just play ball." Bench is not starting. Flowers was clearly the better guy in the spring. I think Taggart didn't want bench, his senior, to keep his head in the game. The QB position is Flowers to lose, I think he will excel. He displayed a good arm in the spring... sure there was the windy spring game but he made some big throws in a gusting wind that I thought were nice. He's a true soph... I look for him to make mistakes, but he's going to go HAM. It's one of the reasons I think Woulard wants in now... Flowers could create a strangle hold on the QB spot for the next three years.

We use to watch games and single him out... He often looked completely lost. He'd make tackles 10 and 15 yards down field, no bueno for a MLB. I've seen Auggie... I've done the same with him. He's waaay more athletic and bends easily at the hips. He meets the runner at the line and has a nose for the ball. It's crazy because last season was his freshman season, and he started and played well. He's a guy who can develop into something special. I think he really is that good. Now only a Soph at 6'2 241, we should see continued improvement. It's only his soph year. He was a redshirt freshman last season .... but he spent 2013 as a fullback. Smart decision to move him back to LB ... Yeah I knew he was a redshirt freshman. But he's still a freshman playing wise. His first season of on the field and he performed better than anyone at any school could have asked a guy to play. He got turnovers as well as created them, recovered fumbles, scored once, hand an int, second in tackles on the season. I mean come on, the kid had a good season considering how young he was. You'll get no argument from me. I like the kid .... how can you not like someone called "Auggie" ... but just to be accurate, he was 4th on the team in total tackles on the season, which is still darn good. Oh... he was 4th? I stand corrected. I misread. Good catch, but yeah that is still really good. I like the kid a lot. I think he's going to be one of our better MLBs if he keeps developing like he is.

Why did they get better after 2004 and worst after 2012... 2011 we sucked also. 2004 was followed by progressively better seasons that began when the team bottomed out the year prior. That 2010 had scattered 1st year starters... BJ had one of his his best season statically in 2011.. I mean none of what you're saying makes sense... because it isn't true. You realize this information is posted right? Literally you give the evidence that this team is closer to 2004 by making up the stuff you did. You demonstrated a trend upwards after bottoming out. So I'd expect this team to actually win 7-8 games this season. I'm not sure what you expected in 2013... but Matt Floyd and Bobby Eveld were the QBs we had with experience. I don't buy what some of you are selling. I'm not calling anyone out but I remember those who hated B.J. and I'm pretty sure that some of you, without saying names, use to be all over Gregs blog hating on Grothe. So when I see a lot of those people who have trashed the program since I can remember, going on about how bad things are now and who's good and not good... I'm like meeeh. Just the fact that they are saying we're terrible this year based on last year, is probably a good thing.

You have not seen this team play one down so that tells me a lot about what you're basing it on.

Del, he/she, simply just pulls it out of thin air without realizing that the narrative in his/her head is false. Doesn't matter what the Kinnan, the school, the head coach, the AD, and what's been reporte... Del simply says it because if he says it, that makes it true.

Sanchez reminds me nothing of Lanaris. Lanaris had no hips and couldn't play either the pass or the run. He was simply a Holtz favorite. He was super slow and not athletic at all. The only reason he started was Holtz... Leavitt had no confidence in that guy and he never even saw reps... but Holtz in his clever talent evaluation did not play the three best guys when he was there. Lanaris was terrible, he played on skates and couldn't make a tackle within 2 yards of the line of scrimmage to save his life. You want to see something funny, look at the highlights of other teams we played and I'm sure you'll see him running around in the middle like a weeble wobble

2011 was the start... we were 5-7, then 3-9, then 2-10, 3-9, and then 4-8. The nose dive started with a thrashing from Pitt in 2011. Have people forgotten when the terrible started. I think we win at least games simply because of recruiting. I know everyone wants to be downer don... but this team is underrated for a change. I think this team is in the position of Memphis a couple of years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if they won the conference.

I'd say this team was actually closer to the 2005 team.

I mean Delda ;-) In all seriousness, it easy to see where his impact could be tremendous, including game planning opponents, implementing the entirely new spread offense, real time gameday adjustment, situation play calling, a voice of reason when CWTis wrong, etc etc You are making too much sense... brain overload... rational thinking... no place here.

While I wouldnt consider this 'hype' by V5, the entire qoute was 'dont believe the hype, WE'LL BE FINE.' I would say the later half is the important bit...would you? I concur

I think he's been committed for 2 years actually. I could be wrong. But you're right, the kid was committed for a while and literally USF was the school he wanted to play for. He grew up a fan... Those are the kids we need.

Hey... I checked out the offense from the spring and he'll actually be on the field a lot on 1st and second downs. The fullback is a H-back and subs in for one of the slots when they run. They also do the same with TEs... He'll see carries too. He runs too good not to. He just has to hold the ball this year. This isn't a passing spread... it's a run first spread. It's more Auburn than Mizzou I attended a few of the open spring practices and the final scrimmage and I remember seeing him of the field quite a bit. I'm not sure the spread we run is exactly like Auburns but they are pretty similar. Glad to hear that ... I liked the way he caught the ball ... but only if .... yeah dude... me too... but only if he doesn't fumble... because he had a case of the dropsies last season.
