I won't even get into the rest of this post, but I'm sorry, this is something that so many fans are just completely wrong on. We 100% deserved that ranking AT THAT TIME. Preseason rankings are undeserved because they are based on conjecture. Rankings in week 5, 6, 7, etc.... primarily are based on results on the field. Which they should be. At that time, no one in the country had a better resume than us. We we're 6-0, with 2 victories over top 20 teams, and blow out victories over UNC and UCF. Yes, we did not end up being the second best team in the country for the whole 2007 year, and the ranking beared that out. You can say that by the end of the year, that ranking turned out to be inacurrate, but to say it was "non-deserving" is just flat out wrong. Maybe this is splitting hairs, but just the way I feel.
What team have you ever seen jump from 18 to 6 in a poll just because of a previous win!?!?!? Then only fall from 2 to 20 with back to back losses?
Ah, Stanford just jumped from 21 to 9 this year after one victory. Kansas St 15 to 7 with one victory. Notre Dame 20 to 11 with one victory. Teams making big jumps in the polls based off one victory happens all the time, every year.
And as far as dropping, Cal dropped from 2 to "only" 18 after back to back losses that very same year(2007). FSU dropped from 5th to 23rd last year after back to back losses. Again, this isn't something out of the norm.
So you agree on those teams deserving their rankings then?
At those times, sure. Cal was number 2 at the time while being 5-0 and coming off a victory over #11 Oregon on the road. Stanfords jumped this year based on results on the field (victory over a top 10 USC), same with Notre Dame (back to back victories over ranked Mich St & Mich).
Please explain what exactly the pollsters should be ranking anyone on if not based on the on-field results?
So you're telling me that if the Bulls would have won out, they would have put them in the NC Game over LSU or USC? I think that the people voting in these polls want to be more of "I called it" people then actually who the top 25 teams are. There is no way I would pick an undefeated USF team over a one loss SEC team any day based on two wins against top 25 teams and a blow-out over a sorry UCF team to be in the title game. I love USF and all but the polls and the BCS system are garbage.
Just giving my opinion and that I don't feel all these jumps are deserved. I now it's not worth anything but just how I feel. In 2007, Michigan looses to an FCS school (granted I loved it) and falls out of the top 25 only to return after beating some B10 teams? They should have not been allowed back in after that "on field" result.
